This is a bit baffling.

I have been to more than a few cities and have seen many- hundreds- of idle teens and young people (20s) who just look like lost souls wandering about the malls, grouping on street corners, and playing 'hoop' etc. I thought "unemployment " was a national problem.

Four out of Five companies cannot get workers? Something does not seem right, does it?

The problem is - there's no app for that. We have raised each generation to be increasingly helpless and ignorant, unable to find their own ass in the dark. Fortunately, there's a light feature on their phones and a "find your own ass" app.

A child leaving high school has their heart set on becoming a video game designer ( you might be shocked to know how many have that dream ), and may or may not attend college, but is willing to wait for that dream job. Others attend college, training for a specific job - whether that job type is relevant to where they live, is hiring, or even exists anymore, and THEY are willing to wait.

Those jobs will remain unfilled until someone wanders along that doesn't have such a high opinion of themselves, wants to work, and is willing to learn something new. The thing is, companies don't move around, and the people they need CAN'T move around - t***sportation not included. My own States unemployment agency, doesn't give a rats ass whether someone can get to one of their offices, an interview, or able to get to work if they work out the previous problems.

We are a narrow minded and short sighted society, where we look at one problem, one aspect of the problem, and ignore everything else.

Maybe those "lost souls" of yours aren't looking for jobs. It's a miss match of sk**ls; people who are looking for jobs don't have the sk**ls that employers are looking for.

First, those were not 'MY' lost souls.. if they were, they'd be encouraged to get the hell busy- Judging from what I was observing, I would say your assessment is likely the correct one, for most of them seemed perfectly content doing nothing but 'street', 'mall' activities.

Another thought- how the hell do those people exist? Where do they obtain the necessities for life? Food? Clothing? etc. I recall seeing pictures of the severely unemployed of the 1930s and those folks all looked different.. desperate, despondent.. very worried, very troubled. I saw none of that in those waves of idle 'laborers-in-waiting'.

Oh, one more thing.. many were sporting 'tats'.. how much does a tattoo cost? Are they free?

Here in West Virginia, as well as in Ohio Help Wanted signs are everywhere. However to be hired the person must pass a drug test and in a lot of cases a retesting one month later is normal. Apparently few people applying can pass both drug tests. Their choice is to use drugs and stay on welfare it is easier than quitting drugs and EARN a living.

This makes sense . The cheap labor force bubble has deflated . Wages will increase in efforts to fill
the open slots which should entice local laborers to get off of publicly funded assistance programs .
It will be a trickle at first .

These are not bad things . They are a natural reaction to what is going on in our shrinking labor force
Most everyone will benefit when Americans get off their duff and start filling these positions .
They will when real markets adjust as illegal labor market disappear .

BTW
If anyone here has a nice lawn you might want to tune up that old lawn mower you've had in storage
for 30 years . Those wages will rightfully shoot up as well.

The problems are complex, making the solutions equally complex. Trying to identify a single cause, therefor a simple solution............is how we GOT here.

Well, that is one huge factor lacking in the depression era- DRUGS.

I hired folks and alcohol history was a major eliminator for had I hired a guy known to drink on the job and he had an accident or hurt someone else... well... imagine. My legal advisors kept that in front of me at all times. Today's drug situation would definitely multiply the difficulty of hiring new guys. DEFINITELY.

Every time I try to watch a Fox news clip I get the message that the video cannot be found and this one is no differerent.

Four out of five of what kind of companies? Farm Combines, Retail Sales, Construction, Burger Flippers? 80 % of the companies are looking for workers is simply unbelievable, I personally know too many people who have no work and are willing to do anything that will earn them a living. I also don't see many signs for help wanted anywhere.

I think this statistic was prepared by the same people who claim unemployment is around 6%. They lie about how few people are out of work and they lie about the availability of Jobs. Anything to divert our attention from the architects of our national misery.

Well, I just clicked on the link, suffered through the d********g promo, but the video ran straight & true.. it's Bret Bier and perhaps there's some other way to chase it down.. but the gist of the video is that as stated in my post. The work featured was in the construction business.

That would seem reasonable, they laid everybody off when construction was in a down turn during Obama's meddling and construction has recently started back up again since Trump got elected. It is what is being claimed as part of the recovery Trump promised. Those laid off workers found something else to do or are wary of jumping back into an industry with such severe swings. The recovery is too young to claim there is any permanent shortage of workers; it simply is that the demand ramped up to quickly for all the slots to be filled immediately. The rest of the economy sucks and unless you have construction sk**ls you will still be unemployed.

My son in law is in this trade . Ran his own business till the industry went upside down under Obama .
Only lower sk**led much lower paid illegal labor's were able to fine work in his region . He owned and ran
his on business prior to Obama . He had to shut his down when some Iranian real estate investor stiffed
him . A very expensive mistake taking this typical mid eastern finagler's contract . He spent several weeks
working alone to finish his side of the contract . If he hadn't he would not have the legal ground to sue .
These people can work the system like no others . Lesson learned there . Never again for him .

However . When Obama's term was nearing it's end , the driving force behind this industry ( big money investments )
started ramping up and it's ramping up sharply . He is working for a large builder as a higher level supervisor
and is back in the game thanks to the American v**er who v**ed to right our ship . Sk**led labor will be following
in the near future . Patience is required to over come our dismal past 8 years . After being torn down so low
this recovery will take some time .
