Fascinating how an innocent and funny thread like this could invoke such vituperate responses, which here, I suppose, is political correctness. Or at least the standard.

If I were asked for a definition of political correctness, I would refuse to answer on the grounds I might hurt someone's feelings.

One of the early examples PC was when garbage men got renamed sanitation engineers; loved that one. But having some sensitivity to how others feel--meaning basic civility, decency, and respect for others--should not be confused with "blanding out" of everything we say usually from the fear of not appearing open-minded or of not having superior concern for possibly offending others.

At what point do you get call a spade a spade? There are certain jobs and sports that I cannot physically participate in them because of certain physical conditions beyond my control. Should I sulk and have my feelings hurt and play on the sensitivity of others or should I accept my limitations and get up dust myself off and try something different. The American way has always been to dust ones self off and either go back to work in training or what have you so that you could become proficient at wh**ever sport one was trying to gain access to. Truing harder has always been that which kept America stronger and more vibrant than any other country in the world. Through PC we are dumbing down America and Americans and not giving them enough credit that they will get back up and come back and fight harder for what they want. Now we are spoon feeding the populace and we are destroying this great country. Maybe a lot of us need to get our collective feelings hurt so as to get up off of asses and get beck in the fight only this time fight harder and win.

There's an annual contest at Bond University, Australia, calling for the
most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year's chosen term was "political correctness".

The winning student wrote:

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical
minority, and promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the
proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of s**t by the clean end."
Exactly correct! :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: br br T... (show quote)

The Republican greed, I get. Cats...not so much. Ours eats very little food.

Entirely off the subject Brian, but about cats - cats are obligate carnivores - they can't smell or taste carbohydrates. But, (one might say) cat foods are largely carbs! Well - those pellets that are mostly carbs - are coated with what's been called "cat crack.' This stuff is one of a group of chemicals called pyrophosph**es, and cats just LOVE 'em!

Ain't nature grand?
