Environmental insanity Gopher Tax

Some officials in Thurston County have called for the creation of a €œ"gopher tax" €
landowners would have to pay to build in locations where gophers are likely living.
The tax, which would be about "$42,000 per property", would reportedly be used to
help build protected habitat for gophers in other parts of the county.

I once shot the head off of one at 300 yards. I'm rather proud of that one. He stuck his head out of his hole, ducked back down before I could line up the shot, then poked it back up again and lost it. This was accomplished with a Remington .708 and a 20X scope.

Good job. There is a way for folks that don't like guns to remove any chance of having to pay this extortion however. My mom found out that if you dump used cat littler down the hole, they move out, and won't come back.

Good to know. I wouldn't come back either. I mean, used kitty litter?

Liberals ARE gophers, but, that's not a picture of a gopher.....ground squirrel, maybe.

Democraps probably wouldn't know.

.22 LR is plenty for taking care of the problem.

(Just trying to get my post count up.)

OMG! 7mm-08 will take down a bull elk at 300 yards! You should be able to do that without a scope.

I don't see how. That's 900 feet. You'd need some pretty good eyes to do that. We're talking about a target the size of a small apple. I'd like to see you try it without a scope.

OK....we'll use a scope. But, geez...let's drop back to .17 HMR. That 7mm can be $1.50 a shot!

And I know that ain't no gopher!

I cast and load my own rounds. Saves a LOT of money. Besides, I did it for the challenge. There were several groundhogs living on that hill. I think I got most of them and had fun doing it.

That is a gopher. No doubt about. After all, I've shot enough of them.

The picture looked like a groundhog to me. I'd get $.25 a hog when I was a kid in Up State NY. My Grandfather and I used smoke bombs on the farm. We'd light the thing, drop it in the hole, cover it with dirt, look for smoke coming out of other holes and cover them up. We'd get the whole family. They were h**ed because beside being able to undermine buildings, cows could break a leg stepping in their holes. I used a .22 WMR w/ 4X scope. Mike
