Styles and ways of life change, but you are correct in one respect. When I was a teen in the early 60s, styles imitated the people that liked to look respectable if not well-to-do. The style now among many of our youth is to try to look like thugs. The unfortunate look of many African-American kids is to wear their pants below their ass. This was called " jailing" because it imitated hoods in jail that had their belts taken away by jail guards.

Sadly, you may be right, rhomin. A friend recently sent me pictures of the old neighborhood we grew up in. This is in the early 50s. People all seemed to be well-dressed: men in suits and fedoras, women in dresses and smiles. There was a shot of the Local Macy's showing about ten carriages parked by the door and a comment that it was common practice for young teenage girls from local churches to volunteer babysitting while the mothers were free to shop. After an eight hour stint of this, they got treated to an ice cream cone from Carvel. Total degenerate oppression or brain-washing today.

Rhoman : I am in my mid 50s and times are a changin as Bob Dylan so achingly sang.life was still safe in most areas of the country. But we are luckily aware and have peace in all of this. Brian please keep vigilantly searching. Nothing wrong with that as long as it never becomes self serving. A book about the Holocaust can be googled by IBM Holocaust.
it is a real eye opener and a frightful read. Actual history's much scarier than any author can dream up.technology I believe is leading us to dark dark times.God bless America we pray.

I've read about IBMs involvement with the concentration camps; very depressing. Most Americans also don't know about Henry Ford's anti-semitism. He published over 500,000 copies of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion". They were forgeries about Jewish plans to take over the world. Henry Ford was a t*****r. He flew to Berlin to personally accept a high-level medal from the fuhrer himself. Hitler kept a picture of Ford on his desk.

So was Joe Kennedy. I collected quite an assortment of n**is garb.much to my friends horror! You know my background. Only because of the scarcity of the stuff! Lotta imitation but in America because the greatest generations dieing it's more prevalent. Dont want that repeated here. But it quietly keeps just simmering below the point of a boiling point

Americans who read are very aware of Joseph P. Kennedy's sympathies for Hitler. Fortunately his children did not inherit his anti-semitism. His grandchild, Caroline Kennedy was married to a Jew.

Prescott Bush, G.H.W. Bush's father was not only an admirer but an actual financier of the Third Reich (google Bush, Union Banking, Hitler). Most Americans don't realize that President Roosevelt had to issue an executive order against Prescott Bush, to order him to stop trading with the enemy.

You must know about how most Catholics viewed Jews in the 50s and 60s: Christ-k**lers, at least in my accredited elementary school (graduated '61). I was raised by a tough Irishman who taught me how to box from the age of five. Although i grew up in a rather idyllic community, fighting over a perceived something or actual nothing was the norm. Is that Irish? Anyway, by fourteen I had a reputation to contend with.

Our crowd hung out at the North basketball courts: this was our established turf. One day, some Jews had the audacity to treat this city park as theirs and "Invaded" our space; my friends egged me on to, er, re-establish our dominance. I was not at all reluctant, believing as a devout Catholic that beating up one of these presumed "Christ-k**lers" was doing the Lord's work.

My antagonism eventually got me maybe 3 or 4 very quick shots to the head before I realized, too late, what was happening. In the prevailing darkness that followed (without being knocked out and still standing, mind), the thought occurred, "This guy is a good boxer." As reality came back into focus, I extended my hand to congratulate my opponent: he ignored it and walked away. My friends looked at this as if I were from another planet--and one opened to earthly invasion.

This moment left me thoroughly isolated...and finally free. I never had another fight. More than that. I became something of a judaphile, ending up being totally ostracized for defending a Jew being tormented by one of the Older Crowd: absolute Tabu.

Watching boxing, a real passion for a few decades, disappeared entirely one day from my radar, never to return. Strange.

I like your story. You sound like a mensche, that's Yiddish for nice person.

Around 1963, Catholic contempt for Jews ended. It was not by accident. Pope John XXIII, the 60s version of Pope Francis pursued Vatican II. This absolved the Jews from any blame for the death of Jesus, putting the onus on the Romans and their soldiers. At the same time, he also stopped Catholics from proselytising to Jews. Relationships dramatically improved between Jews and Catholics. My parents had deep affection and respect for Pope John XXIII.

I wasn't raised to believe that children are to be punished for the sins of their parents. Do you really believe that's true? Really?

The Israeli government would not agree with you. They have had diplomatic relations and heavy trade with Germany since the 1960s.

Brian : its somewhere in the old testament. I believe that the Jewish people are the bigger person for their reaching out with Germany. I am kind of not sure about where I stand on that Biblical teaching I heard it thrown around regarding Kennedy tragedys and its heartbreaking if true. God of the old testament is sometimes very unfair
Asking people to k**l all people woman and children. I hope its not true because my relatives could have alot of tragedy going on.

90% of Jews do not live their lives by the old testament. In this country only the 10% that are orthodox live by those biblical rules.
