Your article starts out with the notation that it is an "AP Assessment", which means it is their opinion.
And it starts out with the statement that "As Speaker of the House, Pelosi does not direct the National Guard."
That is true. Pelosi did not direct the National Guard.
What is misleading about that statement is that it completely misses the mark.
On January 3, 2021, President Trump made the request to have the National Guard present (there were several people present in the room as witnesses to his request) to the Pentagon (Dept of Defense). So therefore, no one asked Nancy Pelosi to direct the National Guard to do anything. They requested that APPROVAL BE GIVEN to have the Guard present that day.
BIG DIFFERENCE.
This is a very sneaky way of the AP to try to twist the meaning of what happened hierarchically when President Trump made his request on January 3.
Trump's request was MADE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE at the Pentagon. The Department of Defense passed this request directly on to the Capitol Police, who passed it on to their managers,The Capitol Police Board. The Capitol Police Board is managed by the Seargeant at Arms of the House of Representatives (Nancy Pelosi) and the Seargeant at Arms of the Senate (Chuck Schumer).
IF Pelosi and Schumer never received the requests to approve having the National Guard there on January 6, that doesn't mean that they were exempt from blame that the request was denied. A Supervisor or Manager is responsible for the person or persons under them at ALL times. If the Seargeants made the decision not to have the Guard there unbeknown to Pelosi or Schumer then they were at fault for not reporting their actions to their bosses, but the ultimate responsibility for that fateful decision lies with the top manager of the "team".
Just to be very clear, here is the truth, again: Pelosi and Schumer are in charge of the Seargeants at Arms of the House and Senate, who are in charge of the Capitol Police Board who are in Charge of the Capitol Police. Whoever is in charge of the National Guard was not notified of anything at all, because the request to have them there was denied.
If President Trump's request stopped in the middle of that hierarchy and never reached the top, that is immaterial to the FACT that Trump made a request that was denied.
And it was later discovered when former Chief of the Capitol Police (Steven A. Sund) wrote a detailed letter to Pelosi on February 1, 2021 stating that the request was denied because "they were concerned about the 'optics'", according to Sund's letter.
The issue is that Trump made the request with witnesses present, and the request was denied. NOT who is in charge of the National Guard. The statement that "Pelosi blocked the National Guard from coming to lawmakers’ defense" is a bogus statement because it was not the National Guard that she "blocked" it was the REQUEST to have the Guard there on January 6 that was blocked.
This kind of twisting of the words to make it seem like something different went on is typical when people try to get around how this request of President Trump's was denied.
I know my response is repetitive in places because I have outlined this hierarchy several times both in this topic and in another one. So I feel it needs to be emphasized with repetition of the facts because people seem to want to change these facts to mean something else. But....this is exactly how things happened that day (and how things work in DC with respect to who is in charge of whom when a request like this is made.)

Deliberate misunderstanding is the basis of lefty policy.
Like when Trump said jokingly that you could grab them by the pssy, or that science find a way to inject a disinfectant, the media and the lefties still breathlessly repeat those statements as if Trump intended it. Yet, Biden gets away with biting little girls, saying things that make no sense, and dealing America away for his own profit.
