How does the NRA justify having guns made available to everyone - without investigation? Some people have short tempers and . . . give them a gun . . . and they'll start using them. Sounds like the old Wild West doesn't it?

This story appeared on "7 NEWS". Following is a short description by one reader.

"Huh. A PATH train heading from Manhattan to N.J. At 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. One suspect a resident of ... "East Orange, N.J." Scuffle based on one person bumping into another (woman), the woman getting "loud", one person pulling out a gun and shooting the woman, then, the woman's brother pulling out his gun. All 3 shot in the shooting back-and-forth: ankle, hand, leg. So: all packing and all getting loud."

I know that, in some cases, unions did overstep boundaries. But in a Right-to-Work state, the employee has no rights at all. The employer can set up a situation to fire an employee and that worker has no rights. He/she can be relieved of duties simply based on the color of one's eyes. But, of course, that's not stated.

I experienced such a situation personally. At the time I was not aware that others knew of the set-up. Not until two years later did I meet a person who knew of the plan.

Through subterfusion I was also denied unemployment benefits.

I hope you realize that this article is one of fantasy. It might have passed as funny but was too immature to take seriously.

It seems to me that the pastor now being a shut-in with others, has a captured audience rather than a captive one which could disagree with him.

I spend my time reading and listening to CD books, creating wire-sculptured jewelry, cycling and breeding Oriental Shorthair cats and instructing dance (flamenco). I also enjoy nature - all positive occupations. I also enjoy creating home improvement crafts. My life is filled with beauty. I've been very fortunate to have been born multi-talented. Don't have time for negativity as you might see in other of my responses on this site. I also enjoy classical music. Friends have advised me to write of my many and varied experiences but I don't have the discipline to follow that course. I also keep in touch on advances in science and am impressed with the intelligence and advancement of many of the younger generation.
PS: I don't waste my time on television and would rather get my news either on the radio or on line.

Old Gringo,
I receive no welfare money. I do have a question for you though: Why don't you do something constructive rather than accessing this site only to be negative. Is there anything in life you enjoy other than this? Seems as if you spend all your time on line.

Had it been just one neighbor I would have forgotten it. I constantly come across this type of person in this city. I am presently living in the bible belt. My fault because I didn't do my homework before relocating.

WHich would you rather have - a $7.50/hour job slinging hash equaling approximately $12,000/year or go on welfare? Now you state that this mother of 2 is "eligible" to receive $38,000/year. I'd like to know how many are receiving that amount.

I truly have no desire to change peoples thinking. I do respect their differences.

I was quite amazed when I first came to the city I am presently living in, to discover that, upon exchanging first names with a neighbor, I was asked which church I attended. I've lived in a few cities and never experienced this before and found it quite shocking. Even before expressing the fact that I don't attend church, I was always invited to accompany them to THEIR church.

I have often expressed the truth that I carry my church in my heart. I always give thanks for the good that happens to me and find it impossible to remember the negative.

A neighbor once asked me if I did not need reinforcement of my beliefs. My response was, "I know what I believe and therefore, I do not require reinforcement." Perhaps by bringing someone new into their church is their form of reinforcement?

I must admit that some of my thoughts may change tomorrow, if I find something new that I have been introduced into, is worthwhile and educating. I'm always open to new philosophies but please do not attempt to convince me of religious dogma. I am a free thinker.

Man, especially greedy man is responsible for all the mess that has been created, not only in this country but in the world. Religion offers a cop-out for those who don't wish to take responsibility for their own actions. Often expressed is, "It is God's will." Both God and Satan exist in every man. We have free will to choose which way we desire to go. Thinking, "The Devil made me do it" is also a cop-out.

Just look at what man has done to this world! He hunts for greed until an animal species is wiped out (fur coats, whale oil, etc.). The pagans had the right idea of taking only what one needs to sustain life. They appreciated the gifts this universe offers and did not need to have ALL OF IT that exists.

The bible has many good examples but they are all allegory which means they can interpreted to fit any situation. Jesus, a very wise man and an adept primarily preached, "Love, Understanding and Acceptance." Outside of that, all is greed and false pride -- and, of course greed.

In my youth the church consisted of a place to worship (if one desired), a place for the minister, priest, etc. to live. When churches need buildings and offices, they are no longer places of worship. Religion today is a business where those in charge are only concerned with donations in order to keep their businesses going.

I am not against beliefs but I definitely am against churches. All the various sects and beliefs only result in separation. "My belief and God is better than yours and is the only true belief and god."

Remember the initial teachings of Love Acceptance and Understanding (of differences). Respect for differences also goes along with the other three.

I have no desire to change anyone's beliefs over to my own BUT I allow myself the same privilege of having my own beliefs.

Dear Pastor Marc,
After reading two of your messages(?) all that is left to me is to remind you that your speech and manner of oration impels me to the word "PRIDE." If you'll recall Pride is a sin that you don't seem to be aware of.
It's easy to quote the bible as all it takes is a good memory. But the bible can be interpreted in any way one desires.

Thank you, AuntieE for the compliment. I do believe old gringo is rather narrow minded but perhaps I am too (note the spelling is correct) except in the other direction. I am not a member of any political party I prefer to weigh the facts and observe and then come to my own conclusions. I certainly did appreciate the photos.

One must admit, though, that the appearance of Obama on the scene has created interest in politics in many more Americans than ever before. I believe that this is the reason so many grass roots organizations have come into being. They just might turn this country around and take it out of the hands of those who feel only greed. With the aid of the internet there is not much time between the actual event and its recognition. That is, not too much time for doctoring the actuality.

Obama has said many times, "Let the people decide." He has much more faith in the American people than the Republicans, who believe they MUST run the government "for the good of the people." They still want to get back to the 50s. Even their representative was not aware of the changes in the military. He still believed we needed more bombers and foot soldiers.

I am a senior citizen and have seen that the old "stuff" doesn't work. I look forward to the future.
