I visited my doctor a week or so ago, and was surprised when the nurse said "now I have some questions I am REQUIRED to ask you. Just bear with me for a minute or two." She proceeded to ask questions, and I waited for the questions that would allude to my freedoms, but as I recall, she only asked about medical issues(primarily had to do with a I steady on my feet, can I get around by myself, do I ever feel dizzy, etc.....I was glad she didn't go where I expected her to go, but none of the questions asked should have been "required" and I wonder exactly WHO REQUIRED THOSE QUESTIONS. I had already filled out 5-6 pages on my medical history, medical problems, etc. Big brother, big pharmaceuticals, big medicine have become far too nosey in my opinion. Prior to that a hospital nurse did the same thing with me. It all seemed sorta like kindergarten to me.

I wasn't asked about firearms either, but I was asked if I felt threatened or in danger. I assume they are looking for people who are being abused, though they could also interpret your answer as paranoia, I suppose.

One of the things I got is 71% of homeless are in central cities, where affordable housing is hard to find. Another observation is a 20-year old study (1996) might not be valid today. A 2015 HUD Study shows the following: Between Jan 2010 and January 2015, overall homelessness across the U.S. decreased by 11%. The U.S. saw a 22% decrease in chronic homelessness and a 19% reduction in homelessness among families. http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Homelessness-in-America-HUD-Releases-2015-Homeless-Count-Data-351810021.html

Those are hopeful numbers. Probably not something conservatives want to hear.

Just pathetic!

That doesn't help me. I repeat, what are we supposed to learn?

Allow me to enlighten you just a tad there snowflake.. (While I am sure statistical analysis confuses liberals - please take the time to interpolate the below and gain at least a base of knowledge.)

Read slow now:

Which states have the highest rates of homelessness?

Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington State, and Washington, D.C. have the highest rates of homelessness, according to a study released in 2007 by The National Alliance to End Homelessness.

What is chronic homelessness?

According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, 23 percent of homeless people are reported as chronically homeless. According to HUD's definition, a person who is "chronically homeless" is an unaccompanied homeless individual with a disabling condition (e.g., substance abuse, serious mental illness, developmental disability, or chronic physical illness)

For singles, the three most commonly cited causes of homelessness are:

Substance abuse
Lack of affordable housing
Mental illness

Homelessness continues to be a largely urban phenomenon.

71% are in central cities
21% are in suburbs
9% are in rural areas

Note: The above figures are based on 1996 data from Samhsha's National Mental Health Information Center.

People who are homeless frequently report health problems.

38% report alcohol use problems
26% report other drug use problems
39% report some form of mental health problems (20-25% meet criteria for serious mental illness)
66% report either substance use and/or mental health problems
3% report having HIV/AIDS
26% report acute health problems other than HIV/AIDS such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, or sexually transmitted diseases
46% report chronic health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or cancer

Note: The above figures are based on 1996 data from Samhsha's National Mental Health Information Center.

Got it now?

I'm not sure what we are supposed to get from your statistics. They certainly don't seem to invalidate Dashy's statement. If 23% of the homeless are "chronically homeless," than 77% are not. Dash said that homelessness can be caused by loss of a job, illness, or some other catastrophic event. According to your statistics, 75% of the homeless report having some sort of major health problem. Also, I think it is interesting that your list of states having the most homeless includes some of the most liberal states (California and Hawaii, for example) and some of the most conservative (Alaska and Idaho) and some that are "purple" (Colorado, Rhode Island). So what are we supposed to learn from this by reading it slowly?

Let's be clear that this was a poll of "likely Republican primary voters." Trump probably will get the nomination, but that's a long way from him becoming the next president.

How many million do you think is here in the United States of America? They load the foreignes onto buses and haul them to polling places to vote. Bus load after bus load.
Most don't speak english, they are shown where to mark the ballot, only have to mark one.

Dead people voting, some counties if Florida had 142% turn out out of 100% regestered voters in that county???
I could go on but I think you get the picture.

Hemiman and I were referring to the "real" aliens: the ones who crashed at Roswell and whom the government is hiding at Area 51. I think it is a lot more difficult for non citizens to vote than you think it is. Not saying it never happens, but I think it is rare.

In the debate before last, the discussion was Donald Trump’s policy of “taking out” the families of terrorists. So, let’s define the ugly reality of what Trump’s glib remarks would look like in the real world. We’re talking about sending American soldiers to peaceful areas to shoot women and babies in the head because they’re related to someone who committed a terrorist attack. When the moderator noted that a former CIA director had said troops wouldn’t obey that order because it was inarguably a war crime, Trump replied, "They won’t refuse. They’re not gonna refuse me. Believe me." That’s a dangerous statement, the sort of statement you’d expect to hear from a fascist or a dictator.
>>end<<

Or a fascist dictator. While I don't think Trump would ever become a 'Fascist Dictator' I do appreciate how Donald is bringing out the fascism in the republican party. I almost expect to see his supporter goosestepping as they enter and leave the halls singing Zieg Heil as they go. I a party of worsts, he's seems to have a talent to finding even worse still...

I agree. And I can see a scenario where President Trump could assume dictatorial powers by creating a phony crisis that required him to declare martial law. I hope we don't have to cross our fingers and expect him to respect the Constitution.

I find it even more interesting that if 68 percent of Americans think the country is heading in the wrong direction, one could assume that 32 percent think the country is heading in the right direction. Given that Obama has an alleged 51 percent approval rating and 32 percent think the country is heading in the right direction, that would mean that the other 19 percent think Obama is doing a good job yet think the country is heading in the wrong direction.

So that means one-fifth of the country think Obama's doing a good job but think the country is heading in the wrong direction.

WTF!

That is exactly how I feel: Obama is doing a good job (well, let's say the best job possible under the circumstances) but the country is headed in the wrong direction because of a Congress that thinks compromise is a dirty word and a Supreme Court that in its wisdom gave us the Citizens United decision, which has put quite a few nails in the coffin of our democratic republic.

What a dip stick you are. Most of the USA wants to see obama HANG for treason and you, lil zipper monster, are so sick and clueless. Most of you maggot DRUNK GAY WITCHES are just that way....gobble gobble you DRUNK PUNK! BACK to your bar full of gay bois like you...PUNK!

Seriously, this is an excellent example of a very common occurrence on this website. Someone posts a link that is supportive of Obama, or Hillary Clinton, or Sanders, or of a liberal position, like the Affordable Care Act, and the response is to loudly (often in all caps) shout that the poster is a gay communist muslim atheist drunk meth addict (sometimes only three or four of these at a time).

Is this what passes for political debate in the US today? Really?

The only way this makes any sense to me is that at some level, the critics realize the weakness of their position and have to resort to schoolyard insults because that's all they've got.
