Heavens to Mergatroyd!

Lost Words from our childhood:
Words gone as fast as the buggy whip!
Sad really!

Well, I hope you are Hunky Dory after you read this and chuckle.

About a month ago, I illuminated some old expressions
that have become obsolete because of the inexorable march of technology.
These phrases included
“Don’t touch that dial,”
“Carbon copy,”
“You sound like a broken record”
and “Hung out to dry.”

Back in the olden days we had a lot of ‘moxie.’
We’d put on our best ‘bib and tucker’ to’ straighten up and fly right’.

Heavens to Betsy!
Gee whillikers!
Jumping Jehoshaphat!
Holy moley!

We were ‘in like Flynn’ and ‘living the life of Riley’',
and even a regular guy couldn’t accuse us of
being a knucklehead, a nincompoop or a pill.
Not for all the tea in China!

Back in the olden days, life used to be swell, but when’s the last time
anything was swell?

Swell has gone the way of beehives, pageboys and the D.A.;
of spats, knickers, fedoras, poodle skirts, saddle shoes
and pedal pushers...AND DON'T FORGET... Saddle Stitched Pants

Oh, my aching back! Kilroy was here, but he isn’t anymore.

We wake up from what surely has been just a short nap, and before we can
say, Well, I’ll be ‘a monkey’s uncle!’ Or, This is a ‘fine kettle of fish’!
We discover that the words we grew up with, the words that seemed omnipresent, as oxygen, have vanished with scarcely a notice from our tongues and our pens and our keyboards.

Poof, go the words of our youth, the words we’ve left behind

We blink, and they’re gone.

Where have all those great phrases gone? ( My Favorite)" Let's all go to the beach Saturday"....

Long gone:
Pshaw,
The milkman did it.
Hey! It’s your nickel.
Don’t forget to pull the chain.
Knee high to a grasshopper.
Well, Fiddlesticks!
Going like sixty.
I’ll see you in the funny papers.
Don’t take any wooden nickels.

Wake up and smell the roses.

It turns out there are more of these lost words and expressions than Carter
has liver pills. This can be disturbing stuff! ("Carter's Little Liver Pills" are gone too!)

We of a certain age have been blessed to live in changeable times.
For a child each new word is like a shiny toy, a toy that has no age. We
at the other end of the chronological arc have the advantage of remembering there are words
that once did not exist and there were words that once strutted their hour upon the
earthly stage and now are heard no more, except in our collective memory.

It’s one of the greatest advantages of aging.

Leaves us to wonder where Superman will find a phone booth...

See ya later, alligator!

How's the war on drugs done so far? Has it got drugs off the street?

Seems to me it's even less successful than the alcohol prohibition of the 1930s when very well organized criminal gangs took control of the beer and liquor supply for many cities, unleashing a crime wave that shocked the nation. This ridiculous 'war on drugs' has cost trillions in enforcement, sent millions to prisons for the heinous crime of 'possession', and destroyed the lives of millions more. If the aim was to cause maximum disruption across the nation, it has been a resounding success. If the aim was to 'get drugs off the street', it has been a miserable failure.

Left-wingers DEMAND ‘change the racist National Anthem!’

November 22, 2017

“On the Holmes Front, with Frank Holmes”

The California chapter of the NAACP has demanded that the National Anthem be replaced, because it’s racist – and they want an entire U.S. state to pass a law condemning it.

California NAACP President Alice Huffman said the Star Spangled Banner is “one of the most racist, pro-slavery, anti-black songs in the American lexicon.”

“It’s racist!” she told local KOVR-TV. “It’s anti-black people!”

Blood pressure breakthrough: why chicken salad may be the secret to healthier numbers [Sponsored]

The NAACP chapter will try to get California legislators to pass a law saying the National Anthem is filthy, racist hate speech when the legislature is back in session next January.

“The song is wrong!” Huffman said in Jesse Jackson-style rhyme.

They want politicians to pass another law honoring former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick for starting the “take a knee” trend. GQ Magazine named him “Citizen of the Year” for starting the “take a knee” trend that sank the NFL’s ratings.

He might as well get awards from fashion magazines. He’s not getting any awards on the field.

The NAACP also wants California to reprimand Donald Trump for saying he’d like to see the NFL fire any “son of a b*tch” who doesn’t stand for the flag and the anthem.

The worst thing isn’t the NAACP’s display of pure hatred for their own country. It’s that people are already being fired for defending the U.S.A.

Sponsored: Two drops. 45 seconds. Zero pain.

The Left has ramped up its assault on every patriotic symbol in America, like –

The Pledge of Allegiance.

In March, a public school district fired a teacher for telling one of his students to stand up for the pledge to the flag.

Vince Ziebarth, a driver’s ed teacher at Eisenhower High School in a suburb on the south-side of Chicago, saw one of his students sitting through the Pledge. He told the student, Shemar Cooper, he should stand – or not ride in his car for driver’s ed.

Kids at the high school get to choose which of the 8 driver’s ed cars they want to ride in. So, if Shemar wanted to disrespect the Pledge, he could have chosen any of the other 7 cars.

Instead, Shemar went home and told his mommy. “That’s bullying!” said his mad mother, Kelley Porter Turner. “He violated my son’s First Amendment rights.”

….Which exist because of the men who died for the flag.

BREAKING: Cancer’s “Kill Switch” Discovered [Sponsored]

The school fired the patriot teacher on the spot.

It turns out they suspended another teacher for telling Shemar to stand for the Pledge earlier in the school year.

That’s pretty ironic for a school that’s named for the president who added the words “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance.

But the fake news media is constantly ginning up fake history to make people hate America.

The Washington Post recently ran an article saying the Pledge of Allegiance is racist – because its author wanted immigrants to love America!

Francis “Bellamy’s pledge advanced the goal of assimilation,” the Post complained in an article on “The Ugly History of the Pledge of Allegiance.”

Sponsored: Big Tobacco Pays National Retribution

Bellamy said he wrote the Pledge to “mobilize the masses to support primary American doctrines” and “true Americanism.”

How deplorable!

“Bellamy’s Pledge of Allegiance was, at its core, designed as an instrument of white nationalism,” the Post said.

Really? White nationalism against white immigrants from Italy, Greece, and Poland? (Are there any paler people than the Polish??)

But when the George Soros-funded haters aren’t hating the Pledge, they’re hating –

The American Flag.

Since the 2016 election:

Hampshire College in Massachusetts removed the American flag from campus after the election of Donald Trump.
Students agitated the University of California, Irvine to ban the U.S. flag from a campus office. A letter supporting them has almost 2,000 signatures, including dozens of professors.
Students at American University burned American flags while chanting “F— white America!” the day after the election.
Last Veteran’s Day, students at Brown University grabbed flags flying to honor vets and tore them, ripped them in half, or threw them in the trash.
Students at St. Mary’s College of Maryland shredded an American flag two days after the election.

As President Trump might say, this is “sad.” But these people don’t just hate our patriotic symbols – they hate

America itself.

Sponsored: An American Prophecy the mainstream media is not reporting on

Kanye West said last November, “We live in a racist country – that is a fact.” That’s exactly how a lot of Americans see this country – racist, sexist, evil, not worth defending.

This is just plain wrong, and every patriotic American had better stand up against it, no matter how corny it looks to some people.

Rise for the anthem and the pledge. Salute when you see the flag.

Teach your kids, and grandkids, the true history of America, the land of liberty.

Tell them about how patriots created the finest, freest country in the world.

Tell them how we fought with ourselves to free the slaves and to give that freedom to more and more people through our history.

According to estimates by the National Turkey Foundation, 46 million turkeys are consumed on Thanksgiving. In a country of 326 million Americans, that figure comes out to one turkey for roughly every group of seven. Nearly 88 percent of Americans surveyed by the National Turkey Federation eat turkey at Thanksgiving. The average weight of turkeys purchased for Thanksgiving is 16 pounds, meaning that approximately 736 million pounds of turkey were consumed in the United States during Thanksgiving last year. That's a lot of turkey!

So now you know.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Corruption: Shortly after the Uranium One story broke, various news reports claimed that it was much ado about nothing. But a review of a huge cache of newly available documents shows that, if anything, it was worse than previously thought.

The Hill broke the bombshell story last month, which summed up goes like this: While the Obama administration was approving the controversial 2010 sale of Uranium One to a state-owned Russian energy giant — which gave it control of one-fifth of U.S. uranium supplies — the FBI was actively investigating that company for extensive criminal activity designed to expand Russia's footprint in the U.S. uranium business.

This raised questions about who in the Obama administration was aware of the FBI's evidence — which included bribery, extortion and racketeering — before greenlighting the sale. Officials involved denied knowing anything about the investigation at the time.

Now a cache of documents 5,000 pages long, which were reviewed by The Hill, sheds new and more troubling light on this story.

The documents detail work done by undercover informant Douglas Campbell, who was paid nearly $200,000 for his cooperation with the FBI while he was working as a lobbyist on behalf of a Russian company. The Justice Department had previously barred Campbell from telling anyone about his work, a gag order it lifted only after the initial Hill story ran.

Among the revelations contained in these documents:

Campbell had documented a bribery/kickback scheme by Russian officials in the U.S. more than a year before Obama approved the Uranium One sale.

He also "relayed detailed information about criminal conduct throughout 2010."

Campbell was directly solicited by Russian officials to help overcome political opposition from Republicans to the Uranium One sale.

He regularly told his FBI handlers about what The Hill describes only as a "Washington entity with close ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton," which was paid millions to help expand Russia's U.S. uranium business and "began increasing its financial support" to the Clinton Foundation.

Russia saw the Uranium One purchase as part of a long-term strategy to dominate energy markets and make the U.S. more dependent on Russia's nuclear fuel.

Russians used "racially tinged insults to boast about how easy they found it to win uranium business under Obama."

It's important to note that all this transpired while Obama was embarking on his ill-fated Russian "reset" — in which he tried to make nice with Russia, and during which his administration not only approved the Uranium One sale but made other rulings favorable to Russian energy interests.

Adding further intrigue to the story is the fact that not only did the FBI keep a lid on its investigation for years, officials at Justice tried to downplay Campbell's significance as an informant and dispute that he had any information about the Uranium One deal after the initial story broke last month. As The Hill notes, the documents it reviewed directly contradict those claims.

One can only speculate why Justice officials would be doing this now.

Despite its potentially far-reaching ramifications, the Uranium One story has so far barely registered with the public, thanks to a near total news blackout from the mainstream press.

When the IBD/TIPP Poll asked about the Uranium One scandal in the latest monthly survey, only 48% said they had been following it closely.

But with investigations underway in the House and Senate, and with Campbell free to talk to lawmakers about what he knew, even the liberal press might not be able to ignore this story for much longer.

Corruption: Shortly after the Uranium One story br... (show quote)

I swore I wouldn't get into this when it first became a 'thing', but here I am...

The Committee on Foreign Investments (CFIUS), a panel of nine government agencies, including the State Department, reviewed the deal. It was approved by the CFIUS and then by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Clinton was not personally involved, and the State Department has no power to approve or veto a transaction.

CIFUS is Chaired by Secretary of the Treasury.
Members are:
DOJ
Homeland Security
Commerce
Defense
State
Energy
Office of the US Trade Representative
Office of Science and Technology Policy

The sale was approved unanimously. If one member had objected, the President would have made the final decision. Once CIFUS approved, the deal was then passed to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which also approved.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the deal on the understanding that no uranium produced would be exported. It is sold to civilian reactors in the US as fuel for the production of electricity.

The accusation is predicated on the charge that then Secretary Clinton approved the sale. She clearly did not.

The sale was evaluated by CIFUS, approved by then President Obama, permits were issued by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and none of the uranium mined leaves the US. Now, will someone please tell me how this could even be considered 'shady' let alone a scandal?

Be assured, I am no fan of Hillary Clinton, her husband or her 'friends', but this is a non-starter in terms of scandal. If I were Hillary Clinton, I'd be pleased that this is taking up so much attention since there are real scandals and crimes going unremarked while this is a 'thing'. Maybe that's the point? Is this another of those 'misdirections'?

Things that make you go 'hmmm'.
