If I have earned $1000 for my labor and I pay you $500 for materials to build a chicken coop and Patty $500 to buy the the chickens for the coop, then you pay $250.00 each to two people to paint your house and Patty pays someone $500.00 for chicken eggs and an incubator and all of us exchange money a dozen times down the line but in the end you have made an extra $2000 and ten lines down people have gotten services for the money, then the fact that you end up with $2000 doesn't matter to the rest of us who got goods for services. After all money is just the symbolic way to exchange labor or barter when I don't directly want what you have to sell, but want what someone else who does business with you has to sell. Why should you feel obligated to redistribute the extra $1000 to some one who was never a party to any of the in between transactions? Now if you want to give me some of the extra money, great, I will be thankful, but you don't owe me any of it. That is how the free market works on a simple scale. Left to its own devices without the government stepping in with ten thousand pages of regulations it would work fairly well, and most people would be happy to help their neighbors with our time and money. As soon as the government steps in and takes our money for things we don't want we get resentful. Yes, federal highways, bridges and the military are federal functions as are a number of other things but as the federal government gets more and more over reaching most people become resentful and become less willing to help out other people.

You and I will never see it the same way but at least we are being civil in our discussions, that's great.

The word security has more than one meaning. I believe security resides in the mind of the person addressing it. Perfect and absolute security is not possible in this life. Some people think money provides security. It doesn't, unless the only security one is thinking of is buying power. Some people think having a good education is security. Wrong again unless it can be used to one's advantage. Religion makes true believers feel secure for their next life, but not necessarily for this life. I see security as having life and freedom. If either of those things is removed, I have lost my security. Everything else is questionable.

Floyd we completely agree with you, but Patty is right too. To take from one person be it at gun point or through the IRS is stealing either way.

I "strongly" advocate volunteerism, my entire life has been dedicated to helping others. I have been attacked on here by those that say charity isn't the answer.

I say those people are misguided, that if you can help just one person you have made a difference.

They also attack the church, pointing fingers at those tv evangelists, well all I can say to that is turn off the tv and go find a small community church and see all of the amazing work they do for others.

Just find what trips your trigger and give them your time.

If all 300,000,000 million plus Americans gave just a couple of hours a week instead of relying on the gov to solve our problems we would have the America we all know can be achieved.

All I know is I could do so much more if the gov didn't just raise my taxes a year ago. I know 2% doesn't sound like much but that equates to thousands of dollars out of my pocket. And now I read more and more companies want to move out of the us because our corp tax rate is out of line in comparison to others like Ireland's.

Whose greed is it our governments 37% tax rate or companies like walgreens who see some European ones as low as 12.5%.

When do we stop relying on gov and start relying on ourselves.

People confuse these rights as being given by the government, they were not. They were given by "our Creator" made very clear in the 2nd paragraph of the Constitution.

As I interpret your response everything really belongs to all of us and some of us are just borrowing it for a while. We can keep the loan as long as we promise to redistribute a certain percentage to those other people who have done nothing with the part we have borrowed. The amount is to be determined by a third party for the good of all. if we decide to keep more of what we developed by our labor than the third party wants us to have, then we have to be punished. Now if everything in the world belongs to all the people in the world, than Putin has a right to decide he and his friends want some of our wealth and the third party, perhaps the UN will take it from us and give it to Putin and that is fine, according to your concept. If that isn't collectivism, then I don't know what it is. Now, I know that is what the UN wants, which is why the fraud of global warming is one of the UN prime concerns Also on the UN agenda is removal of all privately owned guns throughout the world. In the UN run collectivist state that is the primary goal. NO THANKS Collectivism has never worked, and never will as it is against human nature. Perhaps in your Utopia human nature will be changed, but don't hold your breath.

If I had my way the federal government would stay out of the business of government that constitutionally belongs to the states and local governments and primarily to the people. the federal government should not be involved in school curriculum nor managing the welfare programs or three quarters of the things they are in. Help for the needy should be temporary. Several years ago Chicago, in an effort to clean up the housing projects, told people who lived there that they had to spend five hours a week cleaning up the grounds, picking up trash, washing the urine off the hallway walls inside and a number of other simple projects. The residents picketed screaming and carrying signs that they were owed the apartment because they had earned it just by being alive. then there was that video of the woman with 15 kids from 5 different fathers saying "who is going to take care of my kids, somebody else is responsible for their care" That is what happens when the government steps in and takes on a job they should not do to start with.
I am for encouraging home schooling if the parents are capable, celebrating charter schools and not doing the moronic things they do such as banning the constitution,not permitting children to read the Bible in their free reading time and banning anything but the " progressive" opinions in the schools. Most schools have a Gay Pride Week in high school and often in middle school. However, no information is permitted from EX GAY groups, no handouts about changing same sex preferences or preventing them are ever permitted in schools in most areas. Pressure of this type from special interest groups, the PC crowd and now the Federal government should be stopped. The Constitution does not give the Federal Government the right to do what it is doing. From what I can tell of the BLM grab it is also against the law, but I will with hold my final opinion on that until all the facts come out, if they ever do. Probably they will come out at the same time as Fast and Furious, IRS, collecting data on all the citizens, Obamacare and Benghazi All of those things are not the Federal Government's job to do. Fortunately I don't have my way and the corrupt government gets more corrupt every day.
By the way, where in the Constitution does it say the Federal government is there to help people in their day to day matters? I can't find it, maybe you can. And please don't quote "promote the general welfare" or as one poster keeps claiming "provide welfare" God put us here to help one another as we believe is best, not to just hand over money to the government to do so.
