I belong to this group whereby we run trails with built in tricks and traps in an attempt to get to the finish. All to often we miss turns. You can go back and figure things out, or just start ranging around until you find the solution, or just dial in facebook to find the posted finish. I've learned to take my chances. Occasionally get lost for quite a while, but eventually I find the way. All to often it is the women and yes some men, who eventually give up and dial in facebook. It is how we play the game and the chances we take, are willing to take, and the lessons we learn from experiences, good or bad. You learn nothing from dialing in the solution. Like working on a cross word puzzle the next day, and constantly looking to the solution. I'd rather fight the system. Think or experience on my own.

The only time I ever really got lost was in Jakarta. Ended up in the Jakarta suburbs, all alone, and couldn't speak a damn word in the local language. Really lost. Three motorcycle rides later, a young kid dropped me off at a taxi stand and I was able to get back to where I needed to be. I never run without my wallet and money and a credit card. Things happen. But that was the worst in over 4000 runs.

And I have been in mountains and deserts and jungles and center cites and ghettos and suburbs and small towns, scorching heat while suffering dehydration, and floating down rivers, leaping into waterfalls, and tornado warnings in the rains and a foot of virgin snow with massive snow drifts. Late Break of dawn, mid afternoon and late into the night, without lights. Twenty below Zero and about 114 degrees above in Hanoi, And about 25 countries now.

So I always have a hard time when I see my friends get into their cars and have to use GPS to get home. Home? Shouldn't you at least know that.

Have a nice day.

Sounds both exciting & scary. Do you primarily trek in foreign countries or in the US also?

Those sound like fun adventures. In all different countries too. Congratulations.

Mostly in Chicago where I live. But I have traveled to 25 countries to do this. I know people who are taking a cruise to Antarctica and will do it on the ice. It has been done at the south pole. I recently missed Trinidad and there is a big event in India right about now. New Zealand next year. Missing these because I won't get the shots and that makes travel iffy or impossible. Mostly not scary, but shit happens. Heard gun shots a few times in the ghetto areas. But fun.

Sounds really exciting. Once i was in O'Hara on the subway headed to Skokie late at night. Transferred to the wrong train and end up headed to south Chicago. Didn't realize my mistake till i noticed the sky line looking radically different. In just a couple of stops, the train went from having all whites, to blacks & whites and then, I was the only white guy on the train. I was like "oh man, this could end up bad". So I just keep my head down & pretended I was crazy. Switched trains at a stop where you I didn't have to exit to the street. Same thing headed north. I was only white guy on the train, then blacks and whites and finally just white people. Made it the rest of the what to Skokie. Fortunately I didn't have to do that again.

Are you a raysiss lefty? Most lefties would embrace diversity and crime. You voted for it, live it. Don't shirk your lefty duties to be a victim. The oppressed black people need your money. Practice what you preach. And, take in as many illegals as you can. It's the lefty thing to do. Don't be a hypocrite.

I don't think I was being racist. It was an observation I made. I think any person walking song the south side of Chicago in the middle of the night would be easy to fall victim to a crime.

But blacks don't commit crimes. They merely take early reparations.
You're a raysiss.
Embrace diversity. Take in a few illegals. It's your kommiecrat policy. Live it or be a racist bigot hypocrite.

I'm from Chicago and have been riding those trains since the 60s

I ride them all the time and can be the only white person on the train. Hey, even Jesse Jackson admitted to crossing the street at night if he saw a lone black man coming his way. It is just facing the reality of life in the big city. You are naturally more concerned in certain areas.

When I'm out running at night in areas where crime is higher, and I'm approaching a group of, whatevers, that look possibly dangerous, I quickly shout out a friendly greeting and make some friendly comment as I go by. There automatic response is to wave back or something. By the time they remember they were going to mug me, I'm past them. But the real idea is be upfront friendly first. From a city boy.

Now a tale. Where you transfered trains up north to go to Skokie, I boarded on a Christmas Eve with my lady. We happened to get on the first car right behind the driver. Safest, but we were city people and normally didn't worry about those things. Anyhow, It was also a weekend and we grabbed a Chicago Newspaper, with the weekend comics. As we were rolling along we both fell asleep. I suddenly woke up and we were on the south side of Chicago, having slept through the subway and now on the elevated portion. I didn't recognize the area at first and when I figured it out I was a tad concerned. Heading into not so safe neighborhoods. So we stayed on the train until the end of the line and where there would be more people and train crews, etc. We changed trains and got on one returning. And stayed awake. Now the funny part. I fell asleep with the big full newspaper on my lap. When I woke up, I found the comics on the seat behind me and the rest of the paper on my lap as before.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
