I belong to this group whereby we run trails with built in tricks and traps in an attempt to get to the finish. All to often we miss turns. You can go back and figure things out, or just start ranging around until you find the solution, or just dial in facebook to find the posted finish. I've learned to take my chances. Occasionally get lost for quite a while, but eventually I find the way. All to often it is the women and yes some men, who eventually give up and dial in facebook. It is how we play the game and the chances we take, are willing to take, and the lessons we learn from experiences, good or bad. You learn nothing from dialing in the solution. Like working on a cross word puzzle the next day, and constantly looking to the solution. I'd rather fight the system. Think or experience on my own.

The only time I ever really got lost was in Jakarta. Ended up in the Jakarta suburbs, all alone, and couldn't speak a damn word in the local language. Really lost. Three motorcycle rides later, a young kid dropped me off at a taxi stand and I was able to get back to where I needed to be. I never run without my wallet and money and a credit card. Things happen. But that was the worst in over 4000 runs.

And I have been in mountains and deserts and jungles and center cites and ghettos and suburbs and small towns, scorching heat while suffering dehydration, and floating down rivers, leaping into waterfalls, and tornado warnings in the rains and a foot of virgin snow with massive snow drifts. Late Break of dawn, mid afternoon and late into the night, without lights. Twenty below Zero and about 114 degrees above in Hanoi, And about 25 countries now.

So I always have a hard time when I see my friends get into their cars and have to use GPS to get home. Home? Shouldn't you at least know that.
