What part of "Most Americans believe life is sacred. Abortion is taking an innocent life." don't you understand? It's a pretty clear statement....no more words are needed for that point to be made, which is that life is sacred and abortion is taking that sacred life away. And of course it's human life that is being discussed here

A person concerned with ethics might have been discussing life more generally than just human life.

Now a first followup question: Why would _only_ human lives be sacred?

Penny....using the underline function like that (sometimes you use asterisks instead of underline), as well as breaking down someone's post and responding sentence by sentence reveals you.

Why do you feel it necessary to have - what is this now, your twelfth puppet? Why can't you just be yourself on forums? Why keep trying to hide behind sock puppets?

I understand why someone would want to play the sock puppet game with one or two of them, but at least twelve personalities here, and more than that on the other site, is an awful lot of personalities to keep up with. You lose track of who you are supposed to be so often that it's laughable when you come back here again and again thinking no one knows what you're doing. Maybe you should have a more detailed journal to keep track of which personality does what style of writing??

Is Byron helping out with the sock puppets or are you working solo?

It must be that....I can't imagine how anyone can keep track of so many different aliases!!! And he (Byron) did that on the other site, too. Either that, or she's doing a pisspoor job keeping track of them all. 😏

It will only be settled for each individual according to their beliefs. For me its when the zinc spark happens (observable under a microscope). This is called the spark of life. Good enough for me. When the soul enters the body is another matter entirely and I won't go into that here.

Wow! I never heard that! I've heard of the zinc spark, but I LOVE it being called the spark of life!!!!!

Thanks for planting that beautiful image in my mind! πŸ‘πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

I'm interested in what you have to say about the soul entering the body...

I know a guy like that. He can explain the whole mechanics of an internal combustion engine right down to valve timing changes as the RPM s increase. But he can't change a spark plug to save his life. Book learned is what he is.

As for me I am often a "book learned" type of person; however, I have some practical skills or traits, and wish I had more practical skills. We need more than one kind of person, so "book learned" and "un-book-learned with practical skills" are both ok and useful.

One practical skill which I'm proud of is that I can bring down a big tree in a crowded place without damaging property nor injuring anyone. Most people either cannot or will not do it. The most recent one I brought down would have cost thousands of dollars to have done professionally (I did it for free) and they would have had to remove a carport to get to it, and even then they might have caused some property damage (even if they put the carport back right).

You take 100 words to describe what would normally take 15. We're not writing term papers here sonny.

BTW your version of "discussion" feels a LOT more like a LECTURE.

That's where I get the "talk down" point since I know a lot of profs who really believe they are smarter than everyone else cuz they aced some tests. They also tend to be the most idealistic naive people I know, with near ZERO practical knowledge.

I get the same vibe from you...

Thank you for the feedback.

Sometimes I am too verbose.

(Addendum: But still, it often is worthwhile to explain a thing thoroughly. Sometimes people oversimplify too much. There are times when oversimplification, and/or lack of understanding, lead to disaster or misery.)

Don’t change your writing style to suit others. IMO its not too verbose and it makes it clear where you stand

According to independent and university research on homicide rates in countries around the globe,
the Central American countries have the highest homicide rates in the world.
Based on the number of homicides per 100,000 citizens, the rates for Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Venezuela range between 50 and 90 killings per 100,000 people.
The homicide rate in American is 4.8 killings per 100,000 people.

So _now_ I'm being criticized for NOT being smart, or for NOT graduating from some kind of school.

But, what I had said was: "Possibly one thing it's exceptional in is having more mass shootings and/or more deaths by guns, in civilian life, than other countries have." where "it" refers to the U.S. Keep that quoted sentence in mind, because that's what you were replying to (or attempting to reply to).

Here's some backup: "Of the most brutal are probably school shootings, on the list of school shootings by country, the US surely comes to the first place. Also, the US being at the top of world’s mass shooting by percentage (33%) compared to the population percentage it covers (5%) ..." ( https://www.insidermonkey.com/blog/10-countries-with-the-most-mass-shootings-in-the-world-666161/ )

And all I had alleged was "Possibly..." and "...and/or...". It looks like there's something to it, anyway, regarding mass shootings, at least, as seen in the above quote. I didn't bother to look up "deaths by guns, in civilian life" recently.

So, my sentence is fine. It's your erroneous reading of it which has a problem. Where I referred to mass shootings "and/or" to deaths by guns in civilian life, you replied sarcastically _as_though_ I had instead referred to "homicide rates" which obviously is not the same thing. And even if I were more mistaken, it was just an exploratory comment anyway, starting with "Possibly". You are just primed to insult somebody no matter how reasonable they are.

Does your misconstruing mean that you are "not very smart" or that you should be questioned about whether you did "ever graduate from any school anywhere"?

And is being "smart" or educated supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing this time? You folks flip-flop so much on them, how is one to keep track of what's currently "in" and approved, or "out" and disapproved?

Who are "You folks"?

"education" comes in many flavors.

Thanks for those.
I've been to the tracks that rumbled by Nina Simone 's house, but I forgot the name of the small town she lived in.
There's a slower track of Trouble in Mind that Nina did. If I can find it I'll post it for you.
Dr Hepcat singing Hattie Green is the beginning of rock and roll. That's soul too, as much as Percy Sledge or Sam Cook.
I used to be affiliated with the music industry. I got to know a few of the stars.
