I have spent the last 20 minutes trying to think of something. The problems are many and the populace is too divided.

I'm back where I started on the solution. We each need to try to clean up our little piece of the pie. If the cities and the counties can be cleaned up, then the state can be cleaned up. If the states can be cleaned up, then the federal government can be cleaned up.

Sounds impossible, and probably is; but if we each do our little bit, progress can be made. I firmly believe that "bottom up" is the only way to go.

Simple and straight and the garret of truth, it does begin in our local governments to begin to make a change. Unfortunately it is hard for some local governments to get good people in who will not be influenced by money, considering the fact that you have to have money to run. Not to mention that presently people like the Kock brothers, Art Pope put millions into small local governments with backing people they want in, not to mention media from local papers to influence the people.

why do liberals always dig under a whole pile of liberal rocks just to dig up one grain of conservative sand?

I write to several people on this site and it takes a lot of time. You sound very much like you are extremely partisan, very fixed in your beliefs and highly unlikely to be able to consider the opinions of others. I don't think it would be a good investment of my time to attempt a rational discussion with you. Your reaction to the Carlin video was classic and sad.

That was the first time I had seen that particular Carlin video and his critique of the government was, sadly, illustrative of the changes I have seen in our country for the past five years.

Yes, I am dedicated to my beliefs, especially since they involve the efficacy of my country, and I don't concede that to be an irrational position. Since you do, I shall not post on this subject any further. I would not want you to invest in, what you apparently consider to be, a waste of your time.

You seem overly defensive. Since most everything changes, it is difficult to have fixed opinions and be relevant to what is going on. You have had a problem in the past five years? Not before that? Is it, perhaps, the black guy?

They are trying to find something constructive about the conservative philosophy, and it takes a lot of digging to find it.

Oh, Glaucon - I gave you so much more credit than to accuse me of racism. I continued with replies to you because, even though I knew we differed regarding Obama, I thought you had something substantive to offer - something about Democrat, Liberal or Progressive policies which we could debate or maybe even agree upon.

I commended you for not using foul language in your posts to me - but now you have resorted to impugning me with one of the most repugnant words ever - racist. The color of Obama's skin is irrelevant to me. His ideology, his appointments, his actions ARE what troubles me. He has fundamentally and devastatingly changed our government and our social mores and these changes have occurred during his term in office - THE LAST FIVE YEARS.

I am well aware of the relevance of "what is going on" which is why I am so dedicated to my "fixed opinions." Spending is unsustainable, food stamps are at an historic level, unemployment is at 12.5% (the REAL number), scofflaws are being rewarded, felons are being released, taxpayers are being ravaged, taxpayer-supported green energy "investments" are going bankrupt, and our personal security is being compromised..... and I should be concerned about the amount of melanin in Obama's skin?!!! PLEASE!!! I didn't deserve that!!!

I have read and attempted to understand your comments. I sense that you are extremely angry and you have attached that anger to Obama. Obama is probably no better or worse than previous president, so why do you pick him out for the focus of your strong emotions? There is only one obvious possibility.

We are all driven by unconscious mental programs that result in biases. In most of our culture, being a racist is considered a bad thing and to be avoided. We all have unconscious biases that influence our behavior. Since I am unable to identify reality based reasons for you intense, diffuse, hatred for Obama, I have to assume it is the obvious and that you are not consciously aware of it. I am not suggesting you are a bad person or a dumb person, I am only suggesting that you are human.

You strongly object to Obama’s appointments, ideology, and his actions.

Response: What appointments, what ideology and what actions? And reasons for objecting to them?
He has fundamentally and devastatingly changed our government and our social mores.

Response: The is an extremely sweeping statement and it contains absolutely no specifics or examples. I have no idea what this means.

Obama is responsible for the following problems:
Increased use of food stamps
High level of unemployment
Law breakers are being rewarded
Releasing felons
Ravaging taxpayers?
Compromising American’s personal security
Investments going bankrupt
Taxpayer support for green energy development

Response: Are you saying that all of these things are really happening? Are you saying Obama is responsible for all of them? Again, you provide insufficient examples of specificity for anyone to know what you are talking about sufficiently to agree or disagree with you.

This reply is to those who accuse another of being a racist and to those accused.

MY best friend considers herself a conservative and I consider myself a liberal. When Obama speaks, she turns off the TV or watches something she has recorded, because Obama is not welcome in her house. I did the same with little George. I worked with her, and I know she is not a racist.

There are just some people you absolutely cannot stand, and race has nothing to do with it. Think about it. Have you met someone you feel that way about.

I know there are a lot of racists out there and on this site, but that may not be the reason for their dislike of Obama.

maelstrom,

This site is a microcosm or our country and our world. Why do we have so much trouble communicating in a mature, intelligent, productive way? I don’t think any social activity can function for very long without some structure. This site is presently in anarchy. There are no rules, no traditions, no guidelines, no boundaries, and no referees. Groups of trolls constantly obstruct constructive conversation, without some structure, the results are disastrous.
I started a managed site several weeks ago on which there were some very basic, guidelines. It was not popular, so I assumed the participants wanted anarchy and what that made possible. What do you think?

Someone said "we can each clean up our piece of the pie" and that is very true. This is the simple reason I've been trying to get people to cut back on the insults here and attempt to stick to the topics. If we could start here, it would at least be a start. Some days are harder than others!

If I can't seem to stand some one it is a failure on my part.

In my life there have not been many such people. that I have met. & as I have aged I look to see the good in people first.

It may take a while but I really feel that there would be very few that I could not find some good in.
