There is certainly much disagreement about the benefits and pitfalls of raising the minimum wage among well known economists who spend their lives studying economic changes and trends. Your own theories swing through the pros and cons without a firm conclusion. You are in good company. Your question about the dems using the wage issue to buy votes is puzzling. Who are the sellers of these votes? We really don't know who the winners or losers are in the wage war. I am in favor of raising the minimum wage. I believe that when an individual works hard for 40 hours each week, he should be able to get by without resorting to public assistance, welfare, food stamps, etc. We live in America, the land of opportunity. I would be happy to pay ten cents more for a burger and twenty cents less for welfare.

Thanks to barackhussein, no one gets 40 hr. work weeks any more. In a non-barackhussein economy, there would be jobs for everyone who wanted to work. Minimum wage jobs are meant to be filled by highschool kids, not heads of families. People working for min. wage should not be starting families. In fact, NO ONE SHOULD BE STARTING FAMILIES ANY MORE. The world is not a nice place any more. If I were starting out, I would NOT bring children into this mess !!! !

If you want to discuss stealing elections, or votes, look no further than your idol, g.w. bush, his brother, ol' jeb, brought out the hanging chads, ballots being found in garbage dumpsters, coat closets, and a lot of other places that they should not have been.
Guess what, every one of the ballots that were found, in all of those strange places were Democrat votes.
Kind of reminds me of s. walker in Wisconsin, seems like a regular thing with republicans.
Why should republicans show so much concern about voter ID's, republicans have proven themselves to be a bunch of lying, lazy as+h+++'+, but, have they gotten too lazy to carry the Democrat ballots to the closets, and dumpsters anymore, and decided to just block the Democrats votes?
Either way, people have lost their lives, been beaten, spit
on, and a lot of other shit they did not deserve, just for the right to vote.
republicans, or any other sick minded, sorry S.O.B. that does anything to take away, or even hinder a citizen from using that hard fought for, and undeniable right, should be shot for treason.

Poppabear---SERIOUSLY !! YOU HAVE GOT TO FIND A BETTER SOURCE FOR FACTS !! Everything you said about the Florida recount is just the opposite of what really happened ! Were you alive then ? You were ? Then you should know better than to say that moron, algore, should have won Florida. That's fantasy ! The democrats are the ones trying to manufacture votes where there were none. That's when Soros bought all the voting machines and the companies that count votes. That's the only way democrats can win ! there are still a majority of people with brains enough to vote Republican, so they have to use fraud !

Each of your comments have been addressed in an earlier post that I re-post below. I prefer talking about how things are, not about how I'd like them to be. Now, if you can take issue with what I've written, please do so. Focusing on symptoms to a problem while ignoring the cause will inevitably create the unintended consequences that have consistently resulted in proressive social engineering. The higher the cost of employing a person, the more that employment will be decreased, and that impact is more pronounced on those jobs that require the least skill and have the greatet number of aspirants. While raising the miminum wage will reduce the welfare eligibility of those still employed (assuming the progressives don't redefine poverty again) but add those whose jobs disappear to the number of people totally dependent on the welfare state.

When you have conflicting experts, like economists, on subjects like minimum wage one either should concede that he is incapable of determining who is right and therefore hold no opinion. The other approach might be to apply common sense to commons sense things that you know. Let me try that on minimum wages - and let me know if any of the simple statements I made in applying common sense are wrong in your opinion.

If wages are increased, all else being equal, all those engaged in profit making business will do one of the following, or a combination of the following:
- if the job is "portable" move it to a location where the wage has not been increased and therefore became more competitive, and/or;
- look to somehow automate the work, and the more expensive the work, all else being equal, the more cost justifiable capital investment would be, and/or;
- increase the price of the product/service that the work produces, and as happens when a product or service becomes more expensive, all else being equal, the demand for it will decrease.

Each of those outcomes all lead to a decrease in the jobs.

Further, all else being equal the wages one earns in a market based economy is largely driven by the demand for the work and the supply of the workers seeking it. For those jobs at or near minimum wage, those with low skills and education are the ones most likely to be working on them.

If we increase the supply of low skilled people by importing them in large numbers, legally or not so much legal, we suppress the wage scale for them. Further, if we allow our schools to, for whatever reason, generate many more non-skilled and uneducated people entering the workforce, we further suppress the wage scale. If one doubts that we're doing that in our educations system, one needs but look at our urban schools, both the graduation rates and the achievement rates of those that graduate.

So, by making it more expensive to employ people - and there are many programs in addition to minimum wage that does that - Obamacare but one of the more recent - thereby decreasing the number of low skilled jobs - and by making sure the number of unskilled workers far exceeds the number of positions they can aspire to we make certain that the number of people who are not afforded the opportunity for economic independence.

I think it is clear that those who are most responsible for both ends of that spectrum are those who most expect to gain votes for themselves

Dave. You offer the following: When you have conflicting (opinions by) experts, one should concede that he is incapable of determining who is right and therefore hold no opinion. That is quite an observation. I think I am right on the subject of raising the minimum wage. Are you ready to concede? Repeating your opinions make them no more persuasive than they were the first time.

What he is saying is that as soon as the min wage goes up, the prices of everything go up also, and of course there are a few jobs that will be lost completely with the added cost of a higher min wage. Along with absurd regulatory costs, some companies "on the edge" might either go out of business or move out of country.

And what about the employees who are presently making $10.56 hr.? They'll want more than the lowest paid worker, right? And what about the union workers ? They'll get more, too, to stay above the min. wage workers. When it all settles down, the guy that got an extra dollar and hour--for 29 hr. work week, ends up paying more for everything he needs--food, taxes, housing--EVERYTHING GOES UP ! He'll probably end up poorer, and so will everybody else, except the govt.-that takes theirs off the top !

The democrat party stood for party, power and partisanship. I told you what I thought and I told you why I thought it - in simple, easily relatable statements. You stated a believe more akin to blind faith - so I am not ready to concede. By the way, I repeated my opinions to a poster who, by what was posted, suggested they were not read by him.

toid'
Working forty, or more hours a week, for some asshole, and on payday the worker has to make decisions like skimping on groceries, buying clothes for their family, and what utility bills they can pay.
And if they are on medication, or a family member is on medication, having to decide things like should I buy the medicine, or the groceries.
These are not things that anybody that is willing to work, any job should have to worry about.
The law should be...If a person works, male, female, blacks, whites, and everybody else, should be able to financially take care of themselves, and their family.
No more of that honest days pay, for an honest days work shit.
Because who is the one defining honest days pay, or an honest days work?
If this was the rule of working, and the law to work by, guess what... No more food stamps, no more welfare, and probably no more government assistance.
Everybody pay their fair share of taxes, nobody gets a free ride, and you can not run a country without taxes.
As far as employers, if they can't afford to pay a person adequate wages to live on, they should join the work force until they can afford to pay adequate wages.
As far as the so called job creators, fire every damned one of them, because the republicans have spoiled them, and they are totally useless to anybody but themselves.
And if they are caught sending one lousy penny, or job to another country...Deport their asses, we would be better off without them, anyway.
For every employer that follows these rules, there would be supplements, paid with the money with the money that is saved from the no welfare, no food stamp, and no government assistance programs.
These employer supplements will be awarded on an achievement incentive, for the best employee, employer relationship, and the quality of their products.
And naturally there will be incentive awards for the employees too, because no matter what anybody thinks, good employees are the backbone of any job, and if they are paid fairly, they get better.
And re-establish the unions, and staff the with qualified working employees, that work a regular work week like every one else.
This is a plan that would make everybody self sufficient, and happy, and would probably do away with a lot of mental, and health problems.
This would be the restart of the middle class, the people that really built this country.

If you can not see facts in my opposition to the Koch bros.
There is no hope for you anyway.
So you just stay in your little imaginary world, and if things don't change , and they accomplish what they are working on, get ready to click your heels, and salute these pieces of shit, and Putin too.
They are the worst enemy we have ever had, and republicans are sucking it right up.
Good luck!!

You also fail to see the damage Soros is unleashing upon the country and its people.

What ever political entities the Koch's donate to are all pro American. They value the concepts embodied in our Constitution, unlike those Soros supports. His machinations in the U.K. destroyed its pound Sterling in the 90's, bringing the U.K. to its knees. He wants to do the same here, turning us into a rabid Socialistic State. He hates the U.S. and will do whatever he deems necessary to destroy it. You and your ilk are totally blind to what is occurring, or else desire the same.

I don't feel sorry for those that think like you do, and want what you want, but I do grieve for those that live in the real world and are cognizant of what is happening to their way of life. Imaginary world? You dream it, hoping it will come to pass. You are completely consumed with the Democratic-Progressive-Socialistic fervor promised you by your Utopian leaders. There are none so blind as those deceived by their 'leaders'. The current regime is leading the country to oblivion. Look how your messiah is being humiliated by the Russian's, and laughed at by the rest of the world. Look at how he is arming the Muslim Brotherhood, and other terrorist groups at the expense of the peoples in those countries. You are blinded by your own ignorance. Keep following MSNBC, Huffy Post, MediaMatters, and those other leftist media organizations for your "information", while ignoring FOX news and other Conservative viewpoints. While they don't adhere to your preconceived beliefs, they offer alternative viewpoints one should at least consider. They do offer differing viewpoints, unlike the lefties. I do not feel sorry for you, or your like minded comrades, I do pity those that have to live under the reign of your 'savior' in the W.H.

The worst enemy we have ever faced is currently ensconced at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Wash., D.C. Only a Greater Power can save us now.
