And you think that is a positive trait?
“When all think alike, then no one is thinking.” – Walter Lippmann
Basically you’ve just admitted to being closed-minded. Which is another of the hypocrisies of the left since they are so adamant that they are the open-minded ones.
I was raised a liberal (politically speaking) and expected I’d always be a liberal, but when I allowed myself to hear other viewpoints and critically examined my views, I became a Constitutional conservative. When I became challenged to critically examine my non-Christian religion, I was able to accept Christ. After being a well-respected teacher of Christianity, I still allowed myself to critically examine some man-made traditions within Christianity that I was taught, and was able to study myself into more truth (causing me to be ostracized by those who refused to challenge their traditions). My desire to continue seeking truth even if it challenges my current view continues to this day. Knowing the truth sets free! I will accept truth from any source it presents itself. I have enough faith in the power of truth to know that even though I may make some temporary forays into false ideas, truth will always overcome them, but only if I remain committed to being open-minded to challenging every thought.
Without an open mind, all you have is stale and stagnate thinking.
I pity people like you, when they are merely ignorant. Worse when they are willingly ignorant.
When I came to OPP, I spent the first year just lurking and reading. I wanted to see if I could find the common grounds to help libs and cons see each other’s points. The more I read, the more I realized just how close-minded and indoctrinated liberals around here were-just like you’ve admitted. And it made me even less empathetic of the liberal mind-set. In other words, trying to accept what libs, like you for one in particular, say, made me more sure of my conservative-ness. Not because I won’t listen to what you say or post or link, like you close-minded liberals do, but because I do open-mindedly and critically consider both what you are saying and what conservatives are saying.
Here’s a study explaining the phenomenon of your close-mindedness. It’s from the American Psychiatric Association (assuming that’s at least apolitical enough, if not left-leaning enough, for you to stoop to hear from)...
“Certain individuals, those with *close-minded* personalities, are even more reluctant to expose themselves to differing perspectives, Albarracín said. They will opt for the information that corresponds to their views nearly 75 percent of the time.
The researchers also found, not surprisingly, that people are more resistant to new points of view when their own ideas are associated with political, religious or ethical values. “If you are really committed to your own attitude – for example, if you are a very committed Democrat – you are more likely to seek congenial information, that is, information that corresponds with your views,” Albarracín said.”
