Jealousy of what? Do you think it takes any particular talent to disrespect women? My father abandoned our family when I was two and I would have smashed any guys face who disrespected a woman the way Donald did; not out of jealousy but because any man who disrespects women like Donald does are nothing but human pigs. And if you are going to point your finger at Wild Bill Clinton I didn't vote for him either term for that very reason.

The policy is a hard to read and even harder to handicap----so many angles and nuances . Is it a good gambit or a foolish risk. I lean to its a bad idea but for the most part I have to admit the final analysis is above my pay grade. The response from our political parties however has been more entertaining than a lost episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus. This move on tariffs fits the Democratic Party and there constituents like a gift from heaven. They should be all over it like white to rice, modifying it and taking credit. A move designed to protect traditional US industries and keep jobs home? A move that will raise the prices of those commodities, increase US production and allow for increased blue collar employment and wage increases? Are you kidding me? They should be on their knees thanking dumb luck. Instead they are out republicaning the republicans, sounding like the bastions of Friedman economics. I would expect republicans to turn a cold shoulder to the idea, they're whimpering around like lost puppies, They don't have a clue how to tackle this hot potato. But the democrats? They are so obsessed with Trump, I swear to God If Trump were to say racism was abhorrent and we need to open our southern boarder with Mexico, the democrat's would fill the airwaves of CNBC and CNN with endless diatribes about Trump's despicable Zeno-phobic euro-racist attitudes toward our beloved Canuck brethren. This one is a 5 star comedy for sure!

I don’t know why other than a couple of things glaringly obvious~ they push for the global currency to be their yuan and trade of course...

There is always talk of them selling our treasury and or bonds because if our dollar went belly up they would be left holding over a trillion dollar liability..

Between them and Japan its a run to the gate...I think Japan also holds over a trillion too??

If our dollar rises or falls it effects every other country.. When its high China’s is lower and trade price is better for them etc...Our dollar value dictates what the trade of each country is going to be, right??

Can you just imagine China calling in our debt, the US calling in their debt etc.. The devastation in domino effect for other countries would surely be a world wide bankruptcy of everyone, exactly why it will never happen..
But manipulation of highs and lows on currency will always be.. Tettering the balance to suit the countries needs whether it is us, China, Japan etc...

What do you think motivates China, Japan ext to the highs/lows in trade??

Men disrespecting women is an unfortunate nuance of the sexes and not all are like that either... Women disrespect men by not telling them to take a hike when that happens..

I admire you for your stance in how you are towards women..One of the things that measure the value of a man in my book..
However locker room BS is just that and he is not the only one to ever brag about the women he’s had or not had.. He made another comment about trying to bed another women who wouldn’t play too.. Typical banter, Pete..

I’m sure there are many things he regrets having done also another thing we all live with, our choices...

Wrong again. Bad habit you have there little troll. I don’t like tariffs. However; I don’t like the US being treated unfairly in trade either. We have been and are. Typical liberal. Let another country bully you. The tariffs they have in places already hurt our manufacturing jobs. These unfair tariffs make it much harder to sell our goods over seas. Tariffs will hurt China. They have ramped their military spending up to the highest levels ever. An economic downturn will hurt them also. I believe Trump is using this threat as a negotiating ploy. We shall see.

Victory: China’s Pres. Caves, Hands Trump Massive Win on Trade
https://conservativetribune.com/lynch-should-be-shaking/?ff_source=push

In remarks widely seen as a victory on trade for the Trump administration, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Tuesday that he would work to cut tariffs on foreign automobiles and improve protections for intellectual property holders, The Associated Press reported.

The remarks came at the Boao Forum on the island of Hainan in the South China Sea, where China’s president also promised to open its financial institutions to foreign investors and work on “regional economic integration,” the South China Morning Post said.

The remarks come less than a week after President Trump floated the idea of tariffs on another round of Chinese goods, this time affecting $100 billion worth of Chinese imports to the United States....

How big a tariff will have to be placed on the $229 forty-three inch TV I bought for it to be profitable to make them in the USA? Four thousand dollars, perhaps,. If the tariff isn't large enough to make it profitable to make the product in the country imposing the tariff, then all the tariff does is increase the price of the import to the consumer. I don't believe Trump has any idea what is going to happen. Tariffs are a form of central planning. The idea is to impose the tariff on products that can be produced in the local economy at or below the price of the imported goods created by the imposition of the tariff on the imported goods. It is going to be a diaster. Inflation on steroids. The wealth elite globalist won't care, they can afford the increased prices, but the lower income people will be selling apples on street corners again.
How big a tariff will have to be placed on the $22... (show quote)

Chocura, Thank you for at least trying to explain this rationally. Of course you know Trump supporters have their opinion leaders to turn to and will always take their cues from there. So, your point about tariffs being a feature of central planning will no doubt be lost on them. (Recognizing their own hypocrisy isn't part of their narrative.)

Anyway, it's hard to tell if Trump really knows what he is doing. I guess it depends on what you think he is TRYING to do. If he is really trying to make things better for the American workers, then it doesn't appear that he has any clue. But if he's trying to play his base... scoring brownie points by tackling fictional problems, then it's apparently working quite well and we got ourselves a real dog and pony show here. I think a central issue is that no one in the Trump fan club actually knows what has been causing the problems that Trump claims to be fixing. (If they did they wouldn't be supporting him.) Trump blames bad trade deals, so that's what his fans will parrot.

Most of Trump's base come from industries that have been in decline for decades and the people who work in those industries DO have legitimate concerns. But the reasons for decline has more to do with investment strategies on Wall Street than they do with trade deals.

One way to illustrate this is with the issue of domestic oil... another "America First" argument is that we have plenty of oil to drill right here at home and if we did drill more at home we would boost American jobs... And they're right about that. But what they don't seem to understand is why it isn't happening. They don't seem to realize that the easily accessible, high-grade oil in the U.S. was tapped out 40 years ago, leaving us with lower-grade oil that's harder to get to. We could still boost American jobs by drilling for it anyway, but the investors on wall street have better ideas. Why spend extra money on processing low-grade oil that you already have to spend extra money on just to get out of the ground, when they could spend the same money investing in cheaper access to higher-grade oil in overseas operations?

The same can be applied to just about every industry that Trump is pretending to save. Steel, aluminum, coal... China can do it all for a lot cheaper because they haven't burned through their resources like we have AND because labor over their is a LOT cheaper, which makes Chinese industry a better deal for any investor. THAT's why our industries are in decline. We're like the runner that forgot to pace himself. We've been been way ahead of the heat for most of the race but now we're slowing down and our competitors are passing us up on the final laps.

In defense of the protectionist approach, it *IS* about the only policy a government can follow to ease the pain of being less competitive. But we're talking handicaps here and we're not going to "make America great again" with handicaps. We need to get back to what Obama was trying to do... explore NEW industries and new ways to actually BE competitive.
