If you do explain it to me. Forget about whether Obama went to Columbia or Hillery should go to jail, take a break and tell the crowd why Trump is hitting Chinese imports with tariffs?

What does Trump think he'll accomplish? What do you think will happen?

I don't believe Trump has any idea what he thinks will be accomplished. After the most ill considered tax cut, he is picking a trade war with the country which holds a massive amount of the country's debt. I truly think he doesn't know what he is doing. He is motivated by shallow reasoning and we are at his Mercy.

He is mearly trying to level the playing field.
China has much more to loose than we do.
If all trade with China ended, we could make better products with American Citizen labor.
It would only be the Establishment Elite Globalist that would be hurt.

You are exactly right. We have been abused for years by terrible trade deals. Tariffs may cause short term pain. We must do something. As you say they will hurt China much more. I guarantee if Obama had given the unfair trade argument and announced tariffs chucara and its ilk would praise his brilliant move.

How big a tariff will have to be placed on the $229 forty-three inch TV I bought for it to be profitable to make them in the USA? Four thousand dollars, perhaps,. If the tariff isn't large enough to make it profitable to make the product in the country imposing the tariff, then all the tariff does is increase the price of the import to the consumer. I don't believe Trump has any idea what is going to happen. Tariffs are a form of central planning. The idea is to impose the tariff on products that can be produced in the local economy at or below the price of the imported goods created by the imposition of the tariff on the imported goods. It is going to be a diaster. Inflation on steroids. The wealth elite globalist won't care, they can afford the increased prices, but the lower income people will be selling apples on street corners again.

You’re such a drama queen. First off tariffs don’t take effect for months. How would you approach the obvious unfairness in trade with China. They already tariff the hell, out of many of our products.

I will try to explain some country boy economics to you. If you can let go of you ideas about tax cuts were bad, just long enough to listen, I would appreciate your patience.

1. No tariffs have been imposed so don’t sell your stocks.
2. The only reason these maneuvers are in the news is because Trump is doing them.
3. This is an old rodeo, been played for years, beyond media hoopla.
4. Forget all your opinions about government.
5. There is a total GDP of the earth, currently dependent on a few countries, who end up supporting the others.
6. The top of the heap are blessed w/ enough to support others & put them on a sugar tit.
7. A gross imbalance of trade between the top dogs, threatens all of them.
8. Threats of tariffs, & real tariffs have been around for hundred’s of years, are necessary for resets.
9. A very few countries have any skin in the game, just ride the coattails of the big players.
10. Regardless of politics, this game is necessary.

This is the first President who has put the game on the table in full view. You President haters of Trump need to get educated enough to understand, The United States, China, & Russia have to get along for the future of the world.

One World Order is a pipe dream. Once there is no competition, there is no growth. The clash of politcal beliefs is the fuel to feed the engines of development & ultimately decides government.

If you think the Government needs to support you, fulfill your dreams, you better get a grip. Economics cannot come up w/ that formula, nor can any law of nature.

Through negotiations. That's why Kudlow said "How disappointing for China to impose retaliatory tariffs.". He perhaps was expecting Xi to call and say let's talk.

He doesn't need to know. Trump is a bully and as with any bully that's all they know how to do. Now it might work, as it seems to have done with North Korea but with China all you have to ask what do they have to lose? China doesn't care how many of their people lose their jobs nor do they care about any inflation incurred. So you have to ask yourself who has more to lose--China or us and therein lies your answer to who will win a trade war...

No we wouldn't be cause they aren't. No one wins a trade war. Tariffs are no different than a tax increase and will cost the US jobs and increase the price consumers have to pay. The only reason you people are so giddy about them is because your heads are up Trumps butt and you are blind to how bad they really are. And no, tariffs aren't going to cause short term pain. Layoffs will slowdown GDP and inflation will eat up what little is left of the dollar that remains. That makes reversing their effect long term and why only idiots think it's fine and dandy if they are implemented.

1) Tax cuts aren't bad. It's paying for the debt they cause where all the angst comes in. 2) Why would China call and say 'lets talk?' China has other outlets for their merchandise and can buy goods of equal or better quality from Europe where no tariffs are imposed. And 3) we would rather borrow money instead of increase taxes which means we need China buying our debt far more than anything they need from us.

China is not a western democracy with periodic elections so its leaders do not care about public opinion which Trump must juggle to keep his flailings politically viable. China can dig in for the long term and make immense sacrifices to their economy and their people. Kudos to Trump for shining a crude light on the criminal and blatant theft of western intellectual property rights but his ill timed erratic pugilistic approach is the equivalent of showing up to a gunfight with a rusty pocketknife.

Wrong again. Bad habit you have there little troll. I don’t like tariffs. However; I don’t like the US being treated unfairly in trade either. We have been and are. Typical liberal. Let another country bully you. The tariffs they have in places already hurt our manufacturing jobs. These unfair tariffs make it much harder to sell our goods over seas. Tariffs will hurt China. They have ramped their military spending up to the highest levels ever. An economic downturn will hurt them also. I believe Trump is using this threat as a negotiating ploy. We shall see.
