Okay. I have a few hatchets and axes. I chop wood for kindling for my coal stove. Should I pay liability insurance because sometimes a crazy person kills or injures another person with a hatchet or an ax ? I have a number of kitchen knives. Should I pay liability insurance because people sometimes accidentally cut themselves with kitchen knives while they are preparing food ? I don't smoke but I always have 2 lighters on me for lighting my grills and my coal stove. Should i pay liability insurance on my lighters because some people burn themselves with lighters ? I have candles in my house. Should I pay liability insurance on my candles because sometimes candles start fires and burn down houses ? I used to jog a lot. Not so much anymore. I sometimes received injuries from running. Other runners have injuries from running. Should I pay liability insurance on my running shes ?

I vote. From time to time the people I vote for let me down. They even go to jail sometimes. Other voters experience that too. Should all voters pay liability insurance in case the person they put into office does something wrong or lies to them about what they will do once they get into office ? Sometimes a skier will cause an avalanche and kill or injure other skiers. Should all skiers carry avalanche liability insurance ?
Okay. I have a few hatchets and axes. I chop wood ... (show quote)

Good points all. Just one little thing though: Where did anyone mention insurance? I don't get it.

Sounds like you must own some yourself

He's trying to be funny by saying that 'nuts, fools and drunkards' also have the right to 'keep and bare arms'. I know..... Really, I know...............

I've deer hunted in up State NY and you are required to use slugs. That is why the woman shot in the hip died. Too much damage. Mike

This is the second incident from Western New York this season. Earlier a woman was killed by a hunter. These guys are giving the rest of us a bad name.

These rules are not difficult to remember or follow. These 'hunters' deserve whatever they have coming to them.

The victims in these cases had no fault at all. I remember hunting on public land maybe 30 years ago. Back then in doe season guys would shoot at anything brown, so you had to be extra careful. I saw two brown shapes running around and put the scope on them. I hesitated because though in the thick woods the shapes while definitely not human were not quite right. They just did not move like deer. Then I saw that they were big brown dogs. Then out comes the owner in a red suit looking like Santa Claus. I thought to myself, " buddy you are the luckiest biggest moron in the woods today. "

You did it right, make sure of your target... They did it dead wrong, and now their ignorance is coming back to bite them. It's a crying shame really, they're probably good people, just naive.

I keep writing and deleting. There but for the grace of God go I. The guys I used to hunt with. When we were young, we were really stupid.

You too? Well, that makes four of us! At least two of us were smart enough to not shoot up the neighborhood. Finding yourself in a situation like that, and knowing how 'anti-gun' the New York authorities are, that's got to be pretty scary. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. Apparently the guy who shot the pickup actually fired across a public road. Now that really was dumb!

The stuff we did usually involved too many hunters in too small of a hunting area. A couple of deer break out and everyone starts shooting. I cringe to this day at some of those times. The deer generally got away. It is amazing how one deer gets missed by 30 guys. As we got older we got smarter and the close calls stopped.

But to take a shot well after dark when you can't tell what you are shooting at, in areas where non hunters could be, that we didn't do.
