This makes me wonder: How much does a green roof weigh? I can see people being smashed flat by their green roof.

One thing, though...with a little tweaking, new housing with green roofs might be just the thing in tornado-prone areas.

Nah, wouldn't work Mike. Tornados rip grass from the ground.

I was wondering about how much heat those black solar panels continue to radiate after the sun goes down.

Nebraska Pioneers used to build houses called Soddies which consisted of strips of Sod interleavet to form the walls. The cieling rafters were foprmed out of 2 X 4's.

"A better roof could be made with sawed lumber, but that increased the cost of the soddy. Lumber roofs consisted of a combination of 2x6s for a ridge post, 2x4s for rafters, and wood sheathing nailed over the rafters. Many of the roofs were covered with sod cut somewhat thinner than that used in the side walls. Tar paper in between the sheathing and the sod helped cut down the number of leaks. But the best roofs were shingled.}

They couldn't have been too heavy for such light weight Tafters even if they were true 2" by 4"' instead of the one and a half by threes we get today.

They were also small and when that weight isn't supported over a large, open space the 2 X 4s would probably hold up OK.

"Green roofing" existing houses would be problematic.

Bottom line, whether it helps climate change or not (fat chance) green roofing is going to make some folks a lot of money if it catches on.

I need to stop posting when I'm punchy and half blind late at night! I can't believe how many typos and mispellings there are in here.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I didn't have any problem figuring out what you meant even with misspellings.(note misspellings has 2 ss) grins.
No biggie but I use Google and when (often) I misspell a word, a wavy red line shows under the word and I correct it.
Lots of opportunities since my stroke left my right hand/arm impaired so I wander off home keys often. Sometimes I spend more time correcting than I do writing the post. Never give up!!

Yep, between failing memory, arthritic fingers and cloudy vision I'm gonna keep on posting errors. I usually compose in Word, or copy and paste in there, to do a spell check. My color vision (red/green colorblind) doesn't discern the faint underlines below the mistakes. What is annoying is that some misspellings are words, such as ion for on, and in proof reading I still don't catch them.
