Mine was: I get tired of mowing the yard during the summer, and I damn sure ain't gonna mow my roof too! Besides, wouldn't there be safety issues with using a lawnmower on a pitched roof?

No Archie, you have to go whole hog on this. Get rid of the mower and buy some goats and sheep. The sheep will keep the lawn cropped and the goats can do the same for the slanted roof. No more emissions from your lawn mower and the sweet aroma of manure wafting about the neighborhood will increase your popularity -- with the local gendarmes.

I'd stick with local weeds that don't get too tall and just forget it.

Interestingly, though, green roofs might make it perceptibly cooler in urban areas during the summer.

Ah! My cousin once said "A problem is a big, red arrow pointing to a solution."

Not bad!

All joking aside, urban areas contribute more to "global warming" than folks might think. Interestingly, a lot of the measuring devices are in urban areas. Maybe they weren't when first put into use, but urban areas tend to grow.

Just another little piece of the puzzle.

I wonder if asphalt could be made to be more heat reflective.

You are absolutely correct. I live out in the county, and leave for work at 12:00am, and it's 8 to10 degrees colder at home than in town. I carry different jackets/coats with me to make up for the difference.

This has been done. There is a restaurant in Door County, WI which has grass planted on the roof.. Goats do take care of it.
I have spent time watching the goats and have also eaten in the restaurant. It is called Johnsons. You could likely Google it if you want to see it.
