Watch out, all of you "bad men" who like to make idle threats about shooting someone, or attacking someone, or starting a "revolution" against Muslims, Hispanics, or anyone else who scares the bejesus out of you.
Your stupid republican congress has taken your privacy, and soon your anonymity. All of you scumbags will have to scuttle back in to your safe shitholes.

Whats the liberal spin,if they had wanted to do the right thing for the people, they would have stopped anyone from, gathering information on you and selling it for profit

Yes w havent had privacy since the internet started, but the government should a least stop these companys from profiting off that information,or make the internet free,I still say this will bite them in their sorry asses.

Doesn't it seem that the Republicans are ALWAYS pushing bills through before the public becomes aware of it? Take a look at this program and see why. TH has a list showing how much each was paid.

I am grateful I live in Minnesota where the majority of people, including some Republicans in our state legislature, have the sense to respect personal privacy. Minnesota just voted to protect internet users' privacy.
The fact is, there are very few areas where there is a choice of Internet Service Provider or ISP. The ISP should not sell our information without permission, especially not when we are paying them for a service.

Athena-believe this was just another layer added on by Obama to get the government involved so they could eventually screw things up. Each ISP has its internet privacy statement that the customer has an opportunity to read and either accept or decline. Most customers have already given them permission to share their information with others. I do not believe the statements refer to selling but sharing could well be all inclusive. I do not believe we lost anything and from the synopsis I read, the congress is just getting rid of over-regulation and leveling the playing field. Nothing to get excited about as most people's information is already out there in multiple locations here and abroad. America First !!!

If they did that, all those liberal idiots wouldn't be able to steal a dime. LOL!
The law takes away the requirement to tell people they have the right to opt out or refuse to have their info distributed or sold. It instills a level of responsibility which the left is unaccustomed to, mainly because they are used to daddy taking care of everything for them.

How is it "over regulation" to require an ISP to ask before selling information about their customers?
I am in the medical field and personal information is PERSONAL and PRIVATE. Sharing information with anyone is RESTRICTED under severe penalties of law unless it is shared with other health care providers solely for the medical treatment of the customer (or patient if you prefer). That's the only decent standard in my view.
To make an apt analogy to the ISPs, in healthcare how acceptable would it be to find that a diabetes diagnosis leads to tons of advertising about blood sugar monitoring, various pharmaceuticals, nutrition, and exercise programs and equipment?
Answer: Not even ONCE!
Also, in the case of ISP's, these are most often monopoly situations. One could argue that it's "leveling the playing field" with Facebook and Google but I don't pay for them and it is my choice to use them or not. I don't believe that Charter/Spectrum in my area needs any help such as "leveling the playing field" with Facebook and Google.
Before simply asserting that anything government does or that anything that occurred during the Obama administration is bad or suspect we should follow the money and ask who benefits. When the newly Republican dominated Congress removes Obama directives check whether it benefits corporations, and their shareholders, or the little people like me and maybe you who are paying the bills.

Only health information is protected, not identities. HIPPA law even specifically says so.
