The FBI statistics show more assaults are committed with "blunt objects". This would mandate background checks for the purchase of bats, tire irons, golf clubs and such.
Perhaps if Mr Weinstein and others of his ilk ceased producing movies showing murder and mayhem utilizing guns, his position not seem so hypocritical.

They are afraid. Afraid to take responsibility for their own safety, and that of their families. All their drivel about evil guns and evil racists and if only honest people would disarm, everything would be alright all boils down to the fact that they are afraid to defend themselves and their loved ones. They cannot stand the fact that there are those who do have the courage, and have done so. Their solution is to make people who are willing to do what they are not as helpless as they are. That way they feel less inadequate.

You may utilize guns on screen to create as much murder and mayhem as possible. Certain classes of people are allowed to have private gun carrying security. You should not be allowed to protect yourself, because you are not as special as they are. Killing and God do not enter into it.
