What could compulsory/mandatory two years of military service accomplish for the good of the nation? Two years spent in training, probably separated from the professional military; exceptions for those who wish to join. Two years of citizenship training, history, learning a skill, etc. Things they never learn in school. Daily military formations for raising and lowering the flag. You can't take a knee in the military when the National Anthem is played.
One thing for certain, we'd cull out a lot of cupcakes and snowflakes. They'd leave America like cockroaches when the Orkin Man approaches.

A mandatory draft ? Like Israel? Arm all the citizens ? Like Israel ?
Be allowed to STOP terrorists in their tracks because all are trained to fight, and THINK ?
Doesn't sound like something the bleeding heart liberal snowflakes would go for.
Hmmmm, sounds like a DAMN good idea.!
What is the criteria for the POTUS to call for a mandatory draft ?
That alone may shut Hollywood up for a day.

Then there are those of us who enlisted when we were old enough to know better. (lol.) There are a lot of people on OPP who spent a long time in the military. I was just one and done, no re-up for me. I'm glad, however that I did. It really did change my perspective on a lot of things.

EXTREME VETTING is necessary as to not infect the country , whoops ,, military ..
I agree. A year at least of National Service of some kind on graduating from high school would be excellent medicine for the disproportionate percentage of sniveling self entitled cell phone gazers that passes for today's youth. Hmmmm I sound like my father....😀

More likely, the next time a liberal took office they would change the service to include servicing liberal causes. No doubt at some point they'd be installing windmills in places where the was no wind, and sweeping the guts off the floor at Planned Parenthood abortionaries.

I was one of those who were one and done, I enlisted at age seventeen and became a man overnight. The first indoctrination into military law and the severe penalties that would be incurred ended any childish foolishness. My service fortunately was between wars and I can truthfully say it benefited me greatly for my entire life. Those 3 years were the best investment I ever made.
I have been an advocate of universal military service ever since. For those who are not brain dead it teaches you what it means and how to be a citizen. If, like Switzerland, they supplied you with a weapon on separation it would also go a long way towards pacifying our country.

Yep, 3 here too, just before Nam got 'Hot' in '65. 'Obie' missed out!!!(:
I never served in the military, so I feel unqualified to express an opinion. However, even though I lack credibility on this point, I also feel that mandatory service should be a requirement. Still, for me to be suggesting mandatory service, when I had never served, and am far past the point of being drafted if the draft was to be reimposed, seems a bit disingenuous.
I realize there are some here who chafe at the mention of God. But I'm saying it anyway, God bless all who have served. What's that saying? May the sun always be on your face's and the wind at your back's. Something like that. Anyway, you get the point.

You didn't miss a thing Richard. My Dad fought on Iwo Jima WW Twice. I enlisted in Army. Got-R-Done. Returned to College. Army wanted me to "Re-up", go to "chopper school" in Waco. I said no thanks . Probably wouldn't be here now had I done so. 50% never made it home...
