They do not need sympathy nor tolerance they need assistance and caring people who understand and are willing to assist positively in anyway possible. Alcoholism is not a disease like being a liberal is, alcohol can be considered an escape from something hard to live with that varies by each person but I guess one could say the same thing of a liberal. But then this is just my thoughts and not worth much sand. Oh and I am not calling you a liberal here either.

I had two Brothers-in-law who were drunks; the first destroyed my sister and her children, killing her and blighting my nephews and nieces existence to this day. He severely strained my family as well and altered my life course through lost opportunities in pandering to that swine in the name of tolerance, understanding and charity. He eventually drove totally blitzed one time too often and collided with a 21 year old woman whose injuries destroyed her health and life, permanently confining her to bed and a wheelchair in constant pain. He got a brief stint in the crossbar hotel and came out thinking he deserved sympathy for the severe punishment he received. After all, it was an accident. Absolutely no admission of guilt because he chose to drink himself stupid and drive a car in that condition.. It wasn't as though he never did that before, he took out fourteen parked cars in one of his previous"accidents" and hit a moving freight train in another. If there was any man in my life I would cheerfully kill it was that bastard. The other brother-in-law had minimal effect on me and drank his liver into oblivion at age 52 leaving an understanding wife and a 12 year old daughter.

An alcoholic is like any other addict, drugs, sex, perversions involving children, are all of a stripe, --- moral turpitude. It is THEIR problem, not mine. This give a hand up, enabling, non-condemnatory approach simply embroils you in their sphere of destruction. They can go elsewhere for caring and someone willing to assist, because the only assist I will provide is a loaded handgun, they can go blow their brains out.
