New user "norte" seems to be posting a lot of topics, spam or not?

I'm getting some complaints about this new user norte. Reports claiming it to be spam.

On the surface, this person seems to be creating a lot of topics. Doesn't look like spam, but the overall number of topics this user is creating seems to be alarming.

What do you all think? Should I ask him/her to slow down? Or are the topics OK?

Maybe the newbie just wants to get noticed. Give him/her time to settle in.

I guess I will be the first to reply. Spamming comes in several forms and it is not just self advertisement. A forum can be spammed by repeated similar messages where the "author" or thread creator abandons the thread to move on to post another with similar information. This can be disruptive to other posters as their posts are pushed out of view onto history pages.... as such, serious contributors are effectively eliminated and the forum becomes dominated by a singular message or messenger.

The member in question has posted 128 topics in 3 days... and I would say that this is a few above "average" and certainly too many for one individual to stay involved in discussions.

However, having said this I see that OPP does not have "user rules" that prohibit or limit the type or amount of information that can be "shared." So, his/her actions may be in line with OPP Admin.

Seems to tend to babble a bit. With so many, perhaps is not taking enough time with his replies/comments.
Overwhelmed??

Yes, absolutely -- I have told him so several times and as of yesterday he made my pay-no-mind list. He does not engage in discourse and usually does not respond even to reasoned civil arguments.

He is a total time waster and life is too short to drink bad wine.

Norte is just posting quotes copied off the web with a link to some article. Norte does not participate in any discussion, if a response is provided, it is just another plagiarized quote. I've just decided to ignore the poster.

I decided after the first day to ignore this poster. It seems as if there is no way to carry on a real conversation with him/her so it is not worth my effort. Not at all sure that it is spam, more likely it is just a fool pretending to know everything about all subjects.

I suspect he'll tire of having dozens of topics with few/no replies.

But I don't know.

My suggestion is to give him/her a moment to reflect, and perhaps to see this thread.

Too bad the forum isn't set up to allow a user to filter-out certain users that tend to spam.

Yep.
jhmo used to do that like clock work.
Knocked everyone else off the front page.

IMO; Admin should have a limit per hour and per day.

BTW; looks like norte is right leaning.
I see who is upset.

IMO; limits on hogging would be good.

A troll maybe?

Some (KKKH1) do the same thing by spamming threads.

Probably a difficult problem to solve.

The problem with that is that on ChitChat conversations about food and parties tend to have a number of posts between a few people. You could limit it to number of new subjects per hour, but not number of posts.

"You could limit it to number of new subjects (threads per hour and day), but not number of posts."
EXACTLY

That would work well. Even when I was recovering from heart surgery and could do little else but post, I really can't remember more than 15 new subjects per day, and then on the subjects I generally post about.

Let him blather on. He / she evidently has issues but will be talking to
his / her sell in no time .

Personally
Just put him / her on ignore .

However
As for the site and future users he / she
is a plague and will cause harm to both.
