Let's see, moved to the country from the D.C. burbs in 2001. Have always had a fascination with llamas, and acquired some in 2005. My husband would laugh if he saw your question because it's really a loaded question. Originally bought them because there was an actual market, just like with alpacas, their fiber, the llamas as therapy animals, and as guard animals. The market fell through, just like it has now with alpacas. I am concentrating on their fiber. You only shear once a year, so even with 20, not lots of money to be gained, even at $8/oz. Mine are really, really civilized. They do NOT spit on people -- just at each other!! Hey, if I'm having a really bad day, there are a couple that let me just fling my arms around their necks and stand there letting me hug on 'em. I will tell you that even their "poop" is sellable. Don't laugh but it is one of the most efficient "animal" fertilizers out there, plus deer don't like it and I have people who actually will come and shovel it themselves and still pay for the honor of being able to take it home to put around their gardens to keep the deer out!! They are easy animals if you are hands on every day. The girls, when we do breed them, are more in tune with me when they give birth. I can carry their babies up to the paddock. My husband, who usually is the one to give shots, nope. They'll whack him with their long necks, protesting at his touching their newborns. Have to say that since I was always the "bad cop", the disciplinarian, when my boys were growing up, I love being able to play the roll of "good cop"!! Friends of mine in Iowa use theirs in 4-H projects. These same friends have been known to take theirs into hospital rooms, classrooms, and even a bar on St. Paddy's Day!!

You will find as many opinions and perspectives as there are people posting on OPP. There are folks who would like to see Obama impeached and there are folks who think he is unjustly being criticized. I'm somewhere in between. I'm one of those who actually voted for the man twice and sometimes of late, I just scratch my head and ponder "what WAS I thinking." However, he hasn't taken my guns yet, so for the moment I'm just watching.
