Do you actually think that a strong defense is classified as "living by the sword"? I don't. I would classify Hitler's Germany as living by the sword. Do you really think our past record of a strong military, such as Reagan favored, as trying to conquer the world? Do you prefer a weakened military such as Clinton & Obama prefer?

Did you read your own article Loki? "The most recent Index of U.S. Military Strength assessed the global threat level as “elevated” and America’s ability to defend itself and its interests as only marginal?" Our money has bought us the strongest and most sophisticated military in the world so if we are only marginally able to protect ourselves and our interests how will spending still more money change that? During the 90's military spending was virtually flat yet we had little trouble in dispatching the Taliban and Saddam. Is it more spending that's needed or improving how we spend it? Unless Donald is planning on another war what's to be gained by still more military spending?

Pete, how much effect do you attribute to that global threat level from the results of our military policies over the past 8 years? I think it has been significant. We need to change that.

You are clueless about the state of our current military....clueless! Go do some real honest research and then come back, and just maybe then you will be able to enter into a real constructive dialog, but not until you do some REAL FACTUAL research. Like most ignorant leftists in this country, you are clueless....or, you just don't give a shit about the military...I opt for the latter to be the real reason.

But it is factual. In 1990 military spending was 300 billion and in 1999 276 billion--for a slight decline. And I know for certain that it took only a matter of weeks to defeat the Taliban and Saddam. Is there an enemy that is stronger than the two that we are going to go to war with? And don't say China or Russia because a war with either one would soon result in a nuclear exchange so while that's an argument for a strong nuclear program that isn't an argument more military spending when we already have a military sufficient to beat anyone we will come up against...

How will more military spending stop the Russia and China from buzzing our ships?

What the charts show me is that the government takes 2.47 Trillion dollars away from taxpayers so it can be given to others (mostly non-taxpayers). Of course, taxpaying Americans don't have 2.475 Trillion dollars so a great deal of that has to be borrowed ... which is why we're $20 Trillion in debt and now spend 7% of the total annual budget on interest payments. But let's not focus on that ... let's complain about what is spent on national defense.

Ahhh, socialism ... ain't it grand?!

Perhaps you, with your vast storehouse of military expertise gained from your many years of service, can tell all of us poor, clueless veterans how someone like YOU would solve this dilemma?

No surprise that you would think Donald Trump is the world's war monger. WTF do you mean, "another war"? Thanks to Obama America now has an abundance of enemies who are ramping up their capabilities. That includes Iran.

Are you aware that Obama just ordered a B2 bomber strike on ISIS in Lybia? Why do you suppose he did that at this last minute? It sure as hell was not an attempt to defeat ISIS.

what I see is a current Goverment that allots large amounts of money to the millitary and everyone is shrugging their collective shoulders saying I dont know where 6 million dollars went it just isnt there OPPS. For the amount we allot I see nothing because our millitary is below pre WW2 standards and numbers so someone is retiring in healthy pool of money. But thats just my take on it.

If you question the reason to improve our millitary it because its a deterent to other countrys to mess with us.If we are on an even level its kind of a stand off they would only press their luck if they are really stupid
