Still use these on occasion. In fact we have them at most of the deer camps I get to go to.
Now, here's a trivia question for you. Why the moon carving for ventilation ? If you look around it's always a moon. Does anyone know WHY ?
Old timers..... lets see if the younger generation knows why.

Something to do with an ancient lunar symbol.I wanna say women hood or something similar. My buddies grand dad was full of stories and knowledge. I'm pretty sure that's what he said.

Back in the old days when not many could read the crescent moon was in the door as a symbol for women and the star was used as a symbol for men. Both cutouts were there for ventilation and needed it badly. That's the story my grandpa told me but as I remember both men and women used the same outhouse. Good Lord, I just dated myself dint I.

After a day hunting, we'd hang out in front of the fireplace, sipping whisky, and dreading a trip to the bathroom. Good times. It was nice to get away from civilization for a while. Everyone should do it once in a while. It's good for the soul.

Many might be surprised indeed to find that I have used an outhouse.

See...... There is common ground when one least expects it!!!

Most golf courses still have them placed strategically around the course and they of course are the ones that are collected and replaced with periodically. My aunt and uncle had one when they moved to Minnesota to a cabin in the woods. I can remember going down to the trout stream to take a bath and boy was that cold. Brings back memories though thanks.

Speaking of cold, there was a river, a short drive from our cabin. It was about 50 feet deep, and there was a girder bridge over it. The top of the bridge was about 60 feet above the water. I decided to jump off of it. I was pretty adventurous back then. It took just about all the courage I possessed. Looking back, the jump was nothing compared to the shock of that cold water. Ever swim in water that comes from melting snow? I swear, my lips turned blue. I could stand the water for 5 or 10 minutes, then I had to climb out and sit in the sun for a bit. Still can't believe I jumped off that bridge. Youth and a feeling of immortality seem to go hand in hand. I'm wiser now. I leave that stuff to the younger generation.

Amen and Amen I can remember those baths in that trout stream and I am familiar with the blue lips and sitting in the sun to warm up. I also had the nickname of waffle foot up there in Minnesota. My uncle had a heater in the floor and it was a gas heater. Even in the spring when I was up there it would get cold at night and the furnace would come on. He also had a terrazzo floor in the cabin and that was cold as ice in the morning. I woke one morning and landed on that terrazzo floor and that was cold and my next hop was onto the furnace which had a crisscross grate on top of it and it was hot. I was about a minute on the cold floor and I don't know how long on that hot grate and another jump to the cold floor again where my feet started to cool down from that hot grate. I had that waffle print in the bottom of my feet for several days afterward.

Yes! Been there, done that. Of course we had a truly sex neutral back-house; ours had two and sometimes 3 holes, but you didn't spend much time there talking to each other, particularly in the winter. If it was a full house, if you just had to pee, just walk around to the back and pee anyway, paying particular attention to the wind direction and chill index of course.

This liberal extremist bathroom issue isn't new, nor is it a big deal or the business of the Federal Government, but being "career politicians" they are just afraid to discuss important issues in Congress that could cost them their next election if they chose the wrong side of the issue. Hopefully, that will change shortly, as soon as we get an actual working model president in office again, clear the RINOs out of congress, and the liberals get off the their pot and returned to sanity before they lose their mind permanently.

Political Correctness and Socialism are just mental diseases, and they are curable, but drugs won't help; the answer is education, particularly of our children. One of the first items on President Trump's new and different agenda should be to delete the Department of Education that uses government tax money to bribe the State and Local governments to "educate the children the government way." I don't care much for "government brainwashing" and the dumbing down of our country to third world levels and values as we are now doing! Most dictators educate the masses in this manner.

Since the Constitution isn't "toilet paper," and the USA isn't a "democracy" like the Liberal Socialists try to get their sheeple and others of lesser intellect to believe, let's get this Constitutionally Limited Republic back in gear, and follow the Constitution! We are a Sovereign Nation, and the Constitution was designed to limit the government, not the people, and to protect our legal citizens from all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

We presently have more domestic enemies than foreign enemies that we need to worry about, and they are steadily and persistently gnawing at the guts of our country and widely defecating their agitprop! We need to pay much closer attention in the future to whom, and what, we elect to our high level government positions! Most "career politicians" run for government offices for the same reason that Willie Sutton robbed banks; "Because that's where the money is!," and that needs to stop. We need honest, hard working, people in these positions, not crooks who think they're gods and above the law and our Constitution!

Immigrants must be forced to enter legally, assimilate into our system and culture, and pledge allegiance to this country and our flag! To properly communicate they must learn our language, English! Proper immigration is a wonderful way to bring great people into the country! Many great accomplishments have resulted because an immigrant was allowed to raise a family, work freely and develop ideas in this country!

It is the damned migrants that I worry about, the illegal aliens and visitors with expired visas, and they must be stopped from entering illegally, deported or incarcerated, not rewarded with lucrative benefits. Why should our returning military veterans be left to sleep in the streets and be denied proper VA medical care while the liberals provide free housing, medical care, and benefits to illegal aliens? This makes no sense at all! Due to the high-level socialist extremist influence currently within the Immigration System, we also need to more thoroughly vet those wishing to immigrate into our country, at least until we figure this Obama "refugee" fiasco out; we have too many young "warrior age" males, without female accompaniment, coming into the country with the idea of destroying this country from within, and they need to be stopped and turned away! We are being duped! A country cannot be a country without borders! Our borders must be protected if we intend to remain a country.

May God bless the USA, Lady Liberty, all of her legal citizens, her borders, her language, and her culture!

I have never worn shoes to bed in my life and when I get up in the morning I am still usually barefoot even today. I may put on slippers today but back then I seldom wore slippers and I didn't put my shoes on until I had been up a bit. Plus this is the north woods of Minnesota and it could be warm or cold in the morning one never new until getting up.

Used that on a farm in Eastern Colorado and when we went camping in the Colorado mountains. In what campgrounds there were. There were no plumbing fixtures at those sites. The outhouse or behind a tree or bush.

My God, the hoops you would have to jump through, and the permits. Handicap accessible, Transgender Friendly, and all the regulations.
I'm afraid the good life is gone forever.
You just crapped out on this one
