I was born after they invented indoor plumbing, but my family owned a cabin in the Pocono Mts. in Pennsylvania. No electricity. no plumbing. But it was a great hangout for deer season. After a day hunting, we'd hang out in front of the fireplace, sipping whisky, and dreading a trip to the bathroom. Good times. It was nice to get away from civilization for a while. Everyone should do it once in a while. It's good for the soul.

My first winter on Indiana farm we had one, my only memory of it was one cold night I went out to take a dump, will I didn't, too cold. I was 4.
Mom was very active in convincing Dad the need for indoor plumbing and toilette.
Very glad we moved from Chi Town though!

Do you know what it would cost to build one of those today?
My God, the hoops you would have to jump through, and the permits. Handicap accessible, Transgender Friendly, and all the regulations.
I'm afraid the good life is gone forever.
You just crapped out on this one

They can be rough for sure.Definitely better than just a lean against a random tree.I don't know how many times I'd come home from a good day of hunting missing the sleeve or bottom of my t-shirt.At the time it was a pain, but I can look back now and smile.

Yes i was raised up on a Dairy farm in Wisconsin. We had indoor but i never got to use it. I still remember the catalog on the seat it was a 2 holer. That was back in 1954 Around Aug. and Sept got pretty ripe. Had a bag of dehydrated lime to sprinkle on top of the pile. So much for that .And it was home to some of the biggest flies you ever saw.Lots of protein in that there pile of crap.

Still use these on occasion. In fact we have them at most of the deer camps I get to go to.
Now, here's a trivia question for you. Why the moon carving for ventilation ? If you look around it's always a moon. Does anyone know WHY ?
Old timers..... lets see if the younger generation knows why.

I hate to tell you, but there are many people in SW West Virginia who still do not have either indoor plumbing or electricity.
