This was ultimately a state deal.

That is a crock. Carrier is involved in interstate commerce and that is the constitutional link to deal with a private corporation.

Spoken like someone that's never owned a business.

Why don't you invest a few $million starting a company and if you don't lose your ass, just give it all away to the employees and then do it again and again?

Okay everyone that's hacking me to pieces (Steve700 now I understand how you have felt!), let's take a look at how NASA released thousands of contract workers from the space program. My husband was in that fray, workers did get unemployment, they were offered training schools, relocation or early retirement. My husband took the later with a nice bonus for staying after wheel stop, he had worked for the Shuttle program and other space programs for 30 years. I don't think Carrier will do that. I don't think GM did that for their workers when they shut down or got bailed out by the Government. I've adjusted from $85,000 a year to $44,000, it took a while, but I survived.............thank God I didn't have kids. Christmas will be rough for those who do. Trump should have done the deal that NASA did for their contract workers back then. .

Mom... NASA funding comes from a different place than Carrier funding. It's not the same.

Christmas has been rough for a lot of people.

I hope yours this year has the important parts in tact.

I won't argue with you, but Carrier's parent company has government contracts, meanin in my eye if that was a union shop, then me thinks it is the same.

Christmas for me will be our daughter coming over with the grand kids so I can spoil them with gifts they don't want and food enough for them to take home and be stuffed til the new year.
Thanks, Super Dave.

Should, could, might, fact is it is along with those nonemployees many spouses were included that ended up losing. Wives Aunt lost 2/3 of monies forcing her to give up her home and move in with her son. Sure fat cats were also included but so did many former employees.

You might want to step back, don't panic as the left is doing. Think about what Obama has brought upon us, he is responsible for the 20 trillion dollar debt we're in. He is responsible for carrier wanting to leave this country as all the other companies. Now, you're going all panic? where were you voicing yourself when Obama was creating this mess? Yeah, I know, you were too busy taking care of your business, to be alert to politics ruining our nation. Well, nows the time to at least let Trump finish his appointees; liberals are screaming from all the woodwork they're crawling out from, the agenda they started to destroy this nation is falling apart around them. Think, think, think!

If your house was burning, would you try and put it out? or would you go screaming around the neighborhood," the sky is falling", "the sky is falling". all the while your house burns down. Which one are you?

This is why politicians should not interfere in the economy. Had he done the right thing and stayed out of it, nobody would be pointing to the remaining employees who are losing their jobs and expecting a politician to 'save' them too. And what about the rest of the working population who may or may not face unemployment at some point in the future? If it is good for a politician to intervene in a commercial enterprise and 'save' 1100 jobs, then how many 'lump sum' job losses are acceptable? If the 1100 were divided among 500 companies, would that be more acceptable? If not, then we need a task force to intervene every time a company plans to lay off two or more employees. But what about the companies only laying off a single employee? Are not these employees equally important in the grand scheme of things? Taking this line of thought to its logical conclusion, we must assume that the loss of a single job is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.

Here's an idea: Have congress pass a law that no company may lay off any employee and must hire every applicant regardless of job availability or applicant suitability in the interest of full employment. There. Once enacted, every politician in every branch of government will be able to boast that he 'fixed' the economy, bringing about the holy grail of full employment and therefore should be re-elected for a life term. There is nothing that cannot be fixed with the application of a little National Socialism.

Right-on, Rivers; but getting a recently failed {IN A LANDSLIDE} secular/radical liberal progressive ideology to admit their shortcomings and obvious criminalities would be like expecting an exciting game of chess with a pigeon!!! You cons continually confuse me. And worse, now that the precedent has been established all a business has to do is claim they are going to move and the Trump administration will be their to pay them off. What's the limit?

I'm glad you are unhappy with the deal mom--even though it appears to be for all the wrong reasons...

Yeah, talk to the guys who had owned dealerships for years and built their business only to be out in the cold. Trump didn't throw the CEO of GM out on his ass. All he did was provide 1100 men and women a continuation of their job right before Christmas. Only a moron like you could turn that into a bad thing. But if Trump was to make some incredible moves to save jobs, put a real spark in the economy (like he has done already), have ISIS under control in 6 months, make improvements in the inner cities, you still wouldn't be happy, because you are the type of guy who would never be happy. If you were one of those guys at Carrier, you would be elated. And I'm sure he will do it for other companies.
