I'm not happy with Trumps deal. What do the Carrier employees that don't get picked up do? I love the fact that 1100 get to keep their job, but what about the rest MR TRUMP? 300 people are out the door, with nothing but the memory of friends they have know for year keeping their jobs. What kind of Christmas will they have and compared of what they made to what they will get on unemployment is sad. I believe that TRUMP should do everything to get them jobs close to what they had. HUBBY tells me that this is just the way things happen. Be thankful 1100 got to keep their jobs. Am I wrong for asking this question?

I read that the number who will be out the door is higher. It is about 600 who will be out in the plant in question plus the plant in Huntington is still to be closed with 700 being out the door. It is a net loss of jobs at a cost of millions to the taxpayer.

You cons continually confuse me. When Obama bailed out GM you guys threw a fit--claiming that the free market should have been allowed to run its course and now Trump buys off Carrier and you (collective) are dancing a little jig. And worse, now that the precedent has been established all a business has to do is claim they are going to move and the Trump administration will be their to pay them off. What's the limit?

I'm glad you are unhappy with the deal mom--even though it appears to be for all the wrong reasons...

So, you want 100% success every time? Regardless whether the business can afford it, and remain in business? Get real!

Yeah, we threw a fit when Obama screwed the owners (Bond and Stock holders) when he bailed out GM! That is the way a socialist does it! Trump just showed how a capitalist does it.

How is government paying a company to stay against their better financial interests the way capitalism does it? Explain...

News that the federal government is nearly $10 billion in the hole on its $49.5 billion bailout of General Motors Co. is a painful reminder of the U.S government’s takeover of the automaker several years later. Unfortunately, the outlook is not good for GM as a new consumer survey shows that lingering resentment of the bailout may be hurting sales.

The survey, sponsored by the National Legal and Policy Center, was conducted in Texas, the leading state by far for pickup truck sales. Pickups are important because they are one of the most lucrative segments of the automakers’ lines, meaning strong sales are essential to overall profitability.

More than 60 percent of respondents said the fact that GM had taken bailout money would influence their decision on what brand of truck to buy. This news comes as GM says it hopes to send 40 percent of new Chevrolet Silverados to dealerships in Texas.

If the bailout was such a big success that President Obama could use it as a major issue in his reelection campaign last year, why isn’t GM’s stock isn’t worth more? Why is it increasingly unlikely that Obama’s prediction that taxpayers will make money on the bailout will come true?

After all, when the government used our money to “buy” GM stock, it was because the company was in such dire straits that it was about to collapse. Now, it’s supposedly back on its feet and making a profit. One would think it would have outperformed the market, but it’s selling for just about the same price as the 2010 IPO for the “new” GM, around $35 a share when the rest of the market is up 40 percent.

Today that stock is $36.17 and Toyota is $117.77

It's a question from the heart not the brain. I'm not sure I totally agree with government interfering to keep the jobs here. I am willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt because I believe government policies, taxes and onerous regulations are probably behind Carrier and many other companies moving. Carrier will hire those employees back (I believe) if they expand.

I would rather see 300 lose their job then 1400. I do feel sorry for the employees that where laid off.
This is a terrible time for anyone to lose their job. Hopefully, they will be offered jobs equivalent to the pay they where receiving from Carrier.

They did not pay them to stay. That is a misnomer. They gave them tax breaks and subsidies over x amount of years contingent on other factors. GM wasn't moving, they were going under. They should never been bailed out. Especially on the back of their bond holders and dealerships. They should have been made to restructure under bankruptcy. The bailout was done by an administration with virtually no business experience. Probably why so many got screwed.

Agree. If Trump can put in pro-growth policies and get rid of the ACA, the biggest full time job killer ever, people may once again find new jobs opening up. In my life I had many different jobs and was always fortunate enough when I lost one to find another.

Have been though their so-called down sizing and it ain't no fun but in the long run they hired all back plus 300. It's when they leave the country, they usually don't return. Am seeing bitching, he didn't save all the jobs, hell of a lot more than Obama did. GM does not count, they simply screwed the little guy and gave the unions more control. GM stocks are up about two in 7 years, that dead growth plus unions have less control.
