Welcome aboard, Soq. As you can probably see, things can get interesting here.

I did not belittle or besmirch Vietnam veterans. I know that they believed they were doing their patriotic duty. I questioned their beliefs, which I believe were false. I believe they were deceived as the German people were deceived and I am opposed to deception.
The ONLY question is: were they deceived? Are they (and you) opposed to deception?
Have you the COURAGE to oppose public opinion and the fedrill gummint's propaganda and lies?
Or are you a COWARD?
I understand your view on Viet Nam. You do understand that the men that fought where teens when they where drafted or joined. They believed in their government, and that they where fighting to stop the spread of communism in a country that was basically farmers under siege. It wasn't till the end that the truth started to come out about how the french had basically enslaved the country for the profit, especially the rubber trees. And as always, turned tail and ran like cowards when they where faced with opposition. I will always show respect and honor to those who died and fought because they gave much for what they believed to be right. Everything would have been different if we, the american citizens, knew the truth. Kennedy was getting ready to pull all troops out, but Johnson saw an opportunity and got us deeply involved. Kinda like Bush with Iraq.
Much Respect to You Sir

Folks.... are we off subject just a little? Is this not supposed to be greeting and welcoming a new member to OPP? Did I miss something.... I speak for myself, I honor our vets regardless of their branch and I respect their history and encourage them to talk about their pasts... but, there is a time and place.... is this the time or the place? May I suggest that Marvin or Slatten start a thread about his Marvin's "career" and how he served and have now come to think of it... and his supporters can put him on a pedestal and those who disagree with his opinion can have their say.... but for now, could we get back to being a community that welcomes others?

I am a 93 year old US Army veteran of the WW II era. I and my wife live in a retirement community near Chicago.
I was raised and remain a FDR Democrat but not a Truman, Johnson, Carter, Clinton, or Obama Democrat.
I protested Johnson's Vietnam war, actually begun by Harry Truman arming the French Foreign Legion in 1945 to invade Vietnam and retake their former colony, an act of aggression.
During the 1968 Democratic Convention, I was in Grant Park across the street from the convention hotel when the police attacked peaceful, unarmed civilians assembled to redress their grievances, our constitutional right. Apparently, due to your ignorance of events, you were on the other side.
I fought against aggression in WW II and have always opposed aggression, even when my own nation does it. I am sorry you were on the wrong side.
I agree penny this was supposed to be a meet and greet.
