No one is arguing the number of theist's out there and if numbers proved anything than you might be on to something. The one thing that is certain though is that atheism is the only demographic that is growing and that growth is coming at the expense of Christianity.

This trend "is big, it's broad and it's everywhere," said Alan Cooperman, Pew's director of religion research.

Christianity still dominates American religious identity (70%), but the survey shows dramatic shifts as more people move out the doors of denominations, shedding spiritual connections along the way.

Atheists and agnostics have nearly doubled their share of the religious marketplace, and overall indifference to religion of any sort is rising as well. Only the historically black Protestant churches have held a steady grip through the years of change.

As with conservatism it is made up of older people who, as they die off, are taking their religion with them. Goodbye...

As of the middle of last year the adults numbered around 700, 165 or so youth, and near 200 teens. I believe your data regarding declining Christian members may be demographically oriented. At least it is rising where I used to live.

This has to be one of the biggest examples of hypocrisy I have seen in years. Can you imagine Raylan Wolfe criticizing someone for reading right-wing propaganda. He has produced some of the most off-the-wall, leftist garbage in an effort to back up some of his preposterous claims and then has the gall to do this. It's my laugh for the day - if not for the week.

Typical Raylan behavior.

There isn't 10,000 of the godless freaks in the whole country. How stupid are these people, they travel to Washington and stand in the rain to protest there is no God,so they are protesting about nothing, they had a protest about nothing, that makes real sense to them I guess.

Maybe we should stand in the rain and deny the spaghetti monster...lol...NOT!

This is the freedom from religion group who requested that the president offer "religious recognition for Americans who are not religious". That threw me....
Doesn't anyone see through this crap?

Not to mention I find it odd that atheists need their own church, what the HELL for? Oh hell I figured it out then they can all join the Bohemian Grove Club.

The trend I'm familiar with says Christianity is growing in the U. S. and has been on the.upswing since Obama began openly supporting Islam coincidently with the rise of ISIS, but the information is collected via all church denominations and could reflect reporting bias just as your sources could.

One thing I am sure of is that Christianity is growing at an increased rate world wide. ISIS has caused many to come to Christ in record numbers and interestingly we are seeing Islamics becoming Christian as they are being attacked by terrorists at home.

This information is compiled through reports from Christian missionaries in virtually every country on earth.

In my experience, the reason Christians, including mysekf, repeatedly discuss religion with atheists is because we are taught that to ignore those who do not no know Christ personally, is to abandon them and it is our nature to want all to have what we feel we have. Some Christians go overboard and vilify non Christians and I must admit that I become frustrated when someone tries to deny or box God in based on their personal logic and value system, bht I mean mo distepect until I feel disrespected. At that time my nature to defend comes out and I fire back. I suspect many of us could more thoroughly discuss matters if we were a bit less sensitive.

Ah, so the president supports Islam and people suddenly believe in Christianity? I don't know what you're smoking doc but clearly fogged your perspective...

When my grandchild was born that was pretty good news and when my aortic aneurysm hadn't grown that was pretty good news too. My daylilies have done well and I've been able to set pod on most flower blooms--that's good news since I am a hybridizer. As for power--why do we need it? I'm happy with my life--it's been very very good--that's all the power that I need...

From 2007 to 2014 Christianity has declined by 7.8% and unaffiliated/atheist has increased by 6.7%. Whether it is raising where you used to live is irrelevant as overall it is in decline...

I was at a Promise Keepers event in Minneapolis. There were 98,000 Christian men there. Just men and it was one event of many held each year. The number of atheists is pitifully small and.shrinking constantly as they wake up. No one switches from Christian to atheist. It is always atheist to Christian.

30k is.nothing. There is one church in Texas with a congregation larger than 30k and they meet weekly.

The number of atheist are small compared to the superstitious but the number of people wo indentify as being religious hs fallen in the last seven years from 72 % to 60 %
