I don't understand how this could happen to a die-hard Marine such as I, but it has. The new love in my life is a Sailor. Sailor Rae, to be exact. My son and his wife gave birth to our newest grandchild the 20th of April. To my horror and shock, her mother chose to bring a little Swabbie into our family. To BadBobby and others of his ilk, I am sure they will consider this poetic justice. It is incumbent upon me to man-up' and include this precious little being as one of 'us'...a Family of Marines. What choice do I have...she had me at 'hello.'

I guess 'Jarhead,' 'Leatherneck,' or 'Gyrene' would have been an uncomfortable fit for such a beautiful young lady, but...why not 'Bam-Bam '

Don't sweat it, Boot, you will survive. Two of my progeny were in the Transportation Division, one for 30 years, but I was able to forgive them with the passage of time.

As was I.

Well, Salty...as you know, Marines often have to fend for themselves...off the land sometimes...at irregular chow times, and make do with what we have. Unlike Swabbies, we do not enjoy the luxury of a Five-Star hot buffet set up for our three squares..with fountain drinks.

I can't get over the thought of hearing the name "Sailor Slatten." called out. It goes against my grain...sort'a like fingernails on a blackboard.

I don't care for your insinuation, Doc. Are you suggesting Marines are 'under-evolved '

Nooooooooo! I'm saying it's only natural for some Marines to be born a 'Sailor', sooner or later.

Well, Doc...as Saltwind78 pointed out, there is that chance she will become a corpsman. That's darn close to being a Marine

They're all in the same family, in your case - even more so! I know this is jumping the gun by 17 years or so - but can you imagine if your Sailor makes a Marine? Imagine how many Marine Corps officers will be confused, when they discover a Sailor is one of their Marines.
