the wonderful world of income equality

First of all, I just heard the facts about the income of the Clinton foundation employee. Women are paid about 70% of the male counterparts. There is also a slight difference in the Trump corporations. Women have a slight edge in income but generally men and women execs are paid the same.

What about the enormous income differential in professional sports? Should all players be paid the same regardless of ability and talent? Should a professional champion boxer be paid the same as a third string quarterback in the NFL or a rookie MLB infielder?

Should your physician be paid the same as a fry cook? The controversy about free college tuition becomes a mute point. Who would want to put in the effort and time to attend college when you will be paid the same as a high school drop-out?

Income equality will create a classless society with everyone being low class. Income equality is not the redistribution of wealth but the redistribution of poverty. Without competition for financial reward there will never be progress.

Your financial rewards and life style should be based on talent, ability, effort, utility and how you apply your individual talents and skills. Regardless of your knowledge and skills you should be rewarded for your accomplishments and contribution to Society.

If we need to increase taxes we should start by slapping a 90% tax on the income of lobbyist

Redistribution of poverty. Is that any thing like trickle up misery? Excellent post.

Because of my interest in retiring to Costa Rica, I have done much investigation into its government which is a Socialist Democracy. Here's the lowdown:

- Each occupation has a minimum wage - depending on the occupation.
- As education is paid by the government straight up through university, professionals work at a specified salary which can be raised depending on the length of time in such occupation.
- Along with salary there are certain perks such as paid vacations, sick leave, holiday pay, maternity leave, etc.
- All health benefits are paid by the government -- from aspirin to a heart bypass operation.
- There are no long waiting lists.
- Their hospitals have such a good reputation, people come from other countries.

I believe that with all this "free" stuff, the populace doesn't seem to mind a bit of a raise in taxes. Imagine what it would be like to have no concern about one's health and no fear of bankruptcy due to medical bills.

You can look it up if you need proof.

I once borrowed a tape on CR from the library and, in addition, it also included one on Beliz. One thing that stood out in my mind was that the smiling photos of those in Beliz consisted only of smiling mouths as opposed to those in CR in which the entire face and eyes smiled. That definitely made my decision.

By the way, Election Day is a national holiday. Everyone is allowed to vote and shows their pride by displaying an ink-stained thumb.

Gov Moonbeam of California signed the 15.00 minimum wage bill for California. Right after he signed it he said It does not make economic sense. What I want to know is! When did the Political right ever have common sense?

Jim, I think the political right AND the political left probably have equal amounts of common sense - problem is, neither practice it very often, if at all.

Income equality. That's what the Pope wants. How can anybody in the world have income equality? Here are the differences:
Many people are dumb, many people are smart. Many people are lazy, many people are industrious, many people are hard working. Many people have different skills in life. Those who were ambitious and smart to obtain higher degrees like scientists, medicine, engineers, computer technologies, have much better chances of improving their lives because of their pay and ability to accomplish things.

There are innovators and inventors of science like Apples, Bill Gates, and those in the Silicon Valley, and so many other areas where their skills are developed, advanced, and utilized.

Whereas the Black Lives matter marching on the streets, the Burger King, and McDonalds, and others are demanding for equal pay.

Hillary Clinton's abortionist women want to have equal pay with men. That is why the Pope wants socialism to have equal pay and the people are contained just waiting for the government to ration them. That is income equality.

God said, those who don't work don't eat. God gave us the strength, health, talent to make the best use of them. But if people don't want to use them, but demand equality, that could not happen.

I believe that the Pope is primarily asking for an equal running field so that those who are less endowed can, at least, have a level playing field. Pope Francis is quite intelligent and not naive. By "equal" he means that each is given a chance to show their own stuff. Those not as gifted as others know they can't compete at the same levels and, in many cases, just want a chance to be able to doe their own thing.

And the factual support for your statements?

How on earth can one have a level playing field as you claim, if one is intelligent and the other is not educated and does not want to work in a area where, what skills they have, can be productive but at a lower pay scale appropriate with their lever of skills and education. What if doing their own thing, as you say, is not productive.
