The following is a short cut-and-paste from the April 2010 semi-annual conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint. Your reference to temple suggests you are Jewish. However, the following is apropo to all of God's children, regard-less of religious affiliation.

“A story is told that during the bombing of a city in World War II, a large statue of Jesus Christ was severely damaged. When the townspeople found the statue among the rubble, they mourned because it had been a beloved symbol of their faith and of God’s presence in their lives.

Experts were able to repair most of the statue, but its hands had been damaged so severely that they could not be restored. Some suggested that they hire a sculptor to make new hands, but others wanted to leave it as it was—a permanent reminder of the tragedy of war. Ultimately, the statue remained without hands. However, the people of the city added on the base of the statue of Jesus Christ a sign with these words: “You are my hands.”

There is a profound lesson in this story. When I think of the Savior, I often picture Him with hands outstretched, reaching out to comfort, heal, bless, and love. And He always talked with, never down to, people. He loved the humble and the meek and walked among them, ministering to them and offering hope and salvation.

That is what He did during His mortal life; it is what He would be doing if He were living among us today; and it is what we should be doing as His disciples.”

Thank you for your compassionate service to the more fragile, vulnerable among us.

I am not Jewish. I have nothing but respect for what I know of the Jewish faith. Just as I have nothing but respect for the Christian faith. I believe in the God of my ancestors.

To me all faiths are like highways to God. Doesn't really matter which one you take as long as the destination is to bring you closer to God. I believe all religions have more in common than we realize. It is only when man attempts to change the word that problems occur. My interpretation may not be the same as someone else's interpretation. The truth is there, we just have to seek it.

It saddens me that we have lost site of what it means to be human. I am guilty of this as well. Only considering what is best for my family, I sometimes forget it is my duty to work for all of humanity. I try to always help my fellow man. I do not always succeed but I do try.

Having just come back from your trip, I know you are familiar with the message that airline stewardesses convey when you first board the plane about putting on your air mask 'first' BEFORE you put your child's on. That's how I have come to look at reaching out to others beyond my immediate circle. If I have not taken the time for myself and my inner circle, then I cannot put my best foot forward to help others in that extended circle of family called humanity. There has to be a balance between the two. Otherwise, there is nothing left of one's self to give. You are too hard on yourself. Just saying....
