Balance, sir, balance....where has it gone? The Divine Creator to my way of thinking created the human race and all other creatures to have equal importance.

Everyone is clear cutting around us. We are blessed because of my family to live on 207 acres and, quite frankly, so are the animals who have ALL fled the clear cut areas, but sigh, all now seem to live with us. We only allow bow hunters to hunt here and they are told quite explicitly to NOT take more than they or their extended families truly need. We disinvited one fellow who just didn't get the message.

Quite honestly, upset the balance of nature, mess with the food chain, crowd animals out of their natural habitat all for the sake of 'progress' and in my opinion, you will end up reaping what you sew. That so coveted 'progress' in my mind, the fascination with all that is new and shiny, dismissing and dismantling the historic, and our disconnect to nature in my mind's eye, has a great deal to do with the predicament mankind finds itself in now. Now that I think about it, I guess I must be a tree hugger.

 Sorry, that would be a 'negatory'. Slatten can attest to the fact that there most definitely is a Mr. in residence.

 Now, Rufus, rock salt, really? Sir Slatten was ever the gentleman during his visit. In his wisdom, he even inquired before the fact if it was okay with John if he gave me a hug upon his arrival at the farm, lest there be even the merest of tiniest questions as to the purpose for his visit. Slatten, by the way, is a great hugger. The mention of rock salt does, however, bring back at least one memory that causes me to smile.

I appreciate your thoughts, but take exception with one sentence: "The Divine Creator to my way of thinking created the human race and all other creatures to have equal importance." I agree with "that which he created." That which has evolved since the "fall" is another matter. I don't believe he created the myriad insect forms and other byproducts of genetic mutation. Man is the apex, but we have done a pretty miserable jobs of dressing and husbanding the Garden. You are so correct in your observation that we have upset the balance of nature with your passionate penchant for "development." Keep searching with the knowledge that ultimately God is in charge.

Well, I can agree with you as well. In that sentence, you disagreed with, I was referencing those creatures God originally put on this earth, His design. All those things created since which have Man's signatures on them are evidence that we reap what we sew. We seem not to learn. As to Who is in charge, of that I have never had any doubt. Faith and Grace are what get me through. Without them, I would be a lost soul wandering in the wilderness.
