In a very few days, the so-called "Patriot Act" will be up for renewal. I urge everyone on OPP to contact their Senators and demand they refuse renewal of this bullshit legislation. It is nothing more than carte blanche for the Federal government to snoop and pry into private business and financial transactions, and even phone calls that used to require a warrant.
Both the NSA and IRS have already used this questionable legislation to exceed their authority in snooping. Data mining. What amounts to warrantless searches.
Anytime Rand Paul and Barbara Boxer agree that a piece of legislation is bad, it's BAD. (Yes, I realize that one is a Senator and one a Representative. The Senate is the body that will be voting in the next week, probably ).

Rarely I agree with you but you are spot on in this matter, sadly no astute politician will let the surveillance act go away because if they vote against it and the next terrorist attack will be blamed on them by someone wanting their seat. What a joke it was calling this domestic spying program "the patriot act" that description is as far from the truth as possible.

Thank you. When Rand Paul agrees with several very Liberal Democrats that a law is bad, it is REALLY BAD.
These "astute politicians" are not so much astute as they are weasels looking out for #1. If they were astute, they would realize this law has not been responsible for catching the first terrorist, or preventing anything. The IRS and NSA, as I said, are already using this far in excess of what was intended. It won't get better.

While I cannot disagree with you sentiments I also know that even if the Patriot Act goes away the spying will not. It might be more difficult and will have to be done in a way to make it more secret, but it will not go away.

"McCarthyists," CBT??? I thought all the "McCarthyists" had been eliminated by all the card-carrying and "red-diaper" (D) communists in Congress back in the '50's that had a fit when Sen. Joe started to "expose" the intended quiet and deceitful communist march to infest and infect Western free-market culture, education and government with the "Marxist/Alinskyite" "Rules for Radicals," [dedicated to the first radical, Satan (D)], "movement," all the way to POTUS. Hummmmm. Wasn't that the plan, comrade???
And then that damn "Never let a good crisis go to waste" crap that put poor Saul's hard diabolical work on the back-burner for OWS; and then Ferguson. Karl and Saul must be "spinning" in [their] respective graves while watching [most probably from below] the incompetence of "liberalism," and the "useful idiots" who just don't seem to have any common-sense at all. You, comrade CBT, must be at your wit's end with all this stupid exposure that you "Alinskyites" were warned and warned and warned NOT to allow patriotic America to see; "or the 'movement' would be quickly CRUSHED." Does calling you a "jackass" make you feel proud, CBT??? Interesting.

Right on. I do believe both are in the U S Senate.

Right, Kevyn, but if you will notice, frequently these Congressional Acts are named to falsely lure the voting public into thinking they are just the opposite of what they are. They have been doing that for years. I would like to see some way of making the name of the bill more closely correspond with what it does instead of the opposite, which it usually is.
Ditto
The power and control mad members of government are salivating over this. How glorious it would be for these intrusive types to have this power. They could literally have near god level insight into all our lives. Not a very divine thought, is it ?

I thought it was written by Alger Hiss? or Lenin himself? It allows the commies to get dirt on every American and turn it over to scum like killery and the Manchurian calling himself Barak Or whatever his real name is). And of course it is used to blackmail Judges, politicans and administrators. If one acts out of habit....you can be sure it was because the left blackmailed him!

Although I agree with everything you just stated.....I'm afraid it's too late.
I railed against this illegal and unconstitutional act the day Bush put it out there.
I knew if this is accepted that it would be induced with steroids and become a MONSTER of no return.
We are forever banned from our privacy as we knew it.
Have to agree.

Yeah. It's a lot like ""Affordable" Health Care Act."
