Careful, lest you find yourself deluged with fiction masquerading as fact, and obscure or unlocatable references.

My "American person of color" friend (her description of herself) has a phrase about these individuals. She shakes her head and says "I do not understand how their parents missed the instructions on raising them [the children] out of the basement."

To which individuals does your friend refer? Who did I offend this time?

I was not clear. You did not offend. My comment was relative to her statement about "African American" youth and their behavior and attitudes. She, her husband and two adult children have NO sympathy for such individuals. She, her husband and one child all have Master Degrees. She and her husband both know during their long career climbs they were either discriminated against or given promotions based on some Affirmative Action requirement. Their answer consistently has been you deal with what life throws at you and go forward. They have traveled all over the world. Do you know the one place they have not traveled....ding...ding....Africa and have no plans to do so.

I thought someone else had taken offense at my tongue-in-cheek announcement that I was going to begin referring to myself as an "African American." (By the way, did you find it amusing)? Some people were apparently born with no sense of either humor or irony.

There are days I lack a sense of humor. On this particular subject, the sheer moronic sensitivity is beyond comprehension. My progeny and I are trying to figure out if there are enough months for a majority to have their own month. We assigned Irish-American to March. We are going to group all the Scandinavians into April to coincide with Tulip blooming. I personally want May for English-American Month, which would include the Welsh. German-American will have to be October. As we have Black History Month that appropriately is covered. If memory serves, we have an Indian History or culture month. We have seven months left.

I have made my case for my Afro/Scotto/Scandinavian hyphenation, and so far, no one has either been able to dispute my assertion, or say it fast three times in a row. People of my ancestry clearly require three months to be properly represented.

No, you just get to celebrate during three different months. I absolutely knew the "Scotto" had to be there based on where you were born.

Suggestion for you and your progeny: Don't worry if there are enough months, there aren't, There may not be enough days in the year at this rate.
