Moderate Dem Doug Jones ran against an old child molester in 2018 and won (barely). He was a gift for Alabama but lost to a football coach Tommy Tubbervile in 2020.
Last year, the Coach decided he would block ALL military officer promotions until the Dems gave in on some political football or other. After months and months, even the higher ups in the Pentagon became vocal about how dangerous his game was for national security. Tubberville, who never himself served, finally relented after many months.

Too bad Alabamites didn't know a good thing when they had it. They've still got T'ville for another 2 1/2 to 3 years unless he quits.

Obviously, Doug Jones wasn't a "good thing" according to Alabama voters otherwise he would've been reelected.

He couldn't block any promotions, he was simply forcing congress to vote on each individual promotion. He was trying to get the DoD and this administration to obey the law, I commend him for doing it and wish more had.
