I was a consulting engineer under contract to the military, numerous state governments, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank. Also many US coporations including General Motors and various government agencies. I have no idea where we can find a good POTUS. The last one I wanted to vote for was JFK, and somone had him murdered. I liked Goldwater, but he lost.

I'm not sure I understand your position.JFK was a l long time ago .Have you voted recently ?

LOL! The POTUS today is an idiot, too mentally challeneged to make sense at much of anything. Too old. And by the way, I worked for the "entrenched bureacracy" for 13 years (Army Corps of Engineers). They did the best they could, under the handicaps of complying with all the laws Congress came up with. Everyone I knew did the best they could, and I even fired a slacker. And none of the quotes you offered are evidence of anything but mentai deterioration (dementia) due to age. Paraphrased or not.

I never considered the Corp of Engineers part of the entrenched bureaucracy. Do you? You clearly know them better. The EB was created by the elected politicians to do THEIR work so that they could spend their time campaigning and enriching themselves with insider trading and similar unethical and sometimes illegal activities.
The end result is a moiras

sorry.
morass of corruption beginning at the Congressional level, and extending downward for multiple levels. It does NOT include the front line workers or their supervisors who, IMHO, ARE doing the best they can possibly do under sometimes awful circumstances. Parts of the Executive Branch are also involved in the EB, or deep state, as Trump and others call it.
You can deny it exists, but it influences/controls your life to a great degree, whether you admit it or not.
The EB controls what Congressman and Senators say, and what what they see, and they are the ones who write the laws that run your life. All they have to do is get it past their bosses and their opponents, neither of which 'have the time' to read the laws. Reference Nancy Pelosi's famous quote.

Agreed! Bur I never thought the COE was entrenched bureaucracy either. I left after 13 years because of low pay. Private sector paid better.

Sorry, Nick. EB is entrenched bureaucracy, meaning the deep state. I screwed up my post, then tried to correct it, resulting in two concurrent posts. I will try and put them together below:

Thanks. Yes, congress is a sad case of bribe taking and zero morals. And it affects the leadership below them.

Yes, but it is more than that.
The deep state is not something that just happened as the size of the government grew. It was gradually established, IMO, to give Congressmen and Senators more time to concentrate on campaigning, and leave the minutia of legislation to unelected proffessonals. THAT

Yes, but it is more than that.
The deep state is not something that just happened as the size of the government grew. It was gradually established, IMO, to give Congressmen and Senators more time to concentrate on campaigning, and leave the minutia of producing legislation to unelected professionals. THAT led, over time, to the situation we have now. Legislators do not do what they were elected to do. They campaign, they collude on how to increase and maintain their party's power and control, they raise campaign dollars, and they use their positions to make money through insider trading, selling influence, and kissing babies and backsides.
The unelected professionals now run the ship of state. There are millions of them, and they wield more power than their supposed bosses do. Just like the saying that "it is not the number of votes, but who counts the votes", likewise it is not what your elected official does, but what the DC entrenched bureaucracy allows them to do. And the vast majority of them support Democrats and love to impose their personal desires on the rest of us through law writing.....most of which Congress will pass without ever reading. This will continue UNLESS and UNTIL we elect BOTH a President AND representatives who will stand up, kick out the bureaucracy, and go back to writing, proposing, and establishing legislation themselves.

Hey Old Engineer, I just joined today, first off thank you for the service you did for our once great Country. I was wondering did you have anything to do with the nuclear submarine docking station at Kingston Harbor in Florida in 1984/1985. I was wondering because I was a pipeline welder that laid I think it was a 24 inch internally coated line to move nuclear waste from docking area to somewhere in Georgia . Was asked by the Commanding Admiral to move to, I think Maryland, where the Navy builds ships, I told him no that I didn’t know anything about building ships. He said he wanted to send me to Italy to learn how to weld ceramic for the tiles on the space shuttle. I said no thanks, 2 months later I got a package about an inch thick with the offer again and it had we will pay what ever price you put down and move your family, put your kids in the best schools and buy you a house. Told him no thanks, then I received another package with all kinds of Naval commendations.
