But stupidity is also a matter of degree. For the slightly-stupid conservatives it's often a matter of short-sight, where they fixate on a benefit (ie., lower tax) without realizing the consequence (ie., increased debt). For the ridiculously stupid conservatives it's a complete and willful inability to understand any part of political reality at all. I think Mill was referring to the ridiculously stupid because ALL conservatives are at least slightly-stupid... unless they are a self-interested part of the 1%.

I've known stupid people of all stripes but with Conservatives, it seems to be a willful stupidity in that they would rather believe a lie than to invest the effort to discover if it is the truth. The thing about people who are willfully stupid there isn't much that can be done about them...
