It was President Eisenhower administration that borrowed social security funds and replacing it with lower interest bonds. The money was used to build our interstate highway system.

The Kennedy administration borrowed(?) Social Security trust funds and replacing it with worthless IOU bonds.

It has been a standard practice for year's and social security has some fourteen trillion dollars of worthless IOU bonds.

Of course, this time around it is the repulsives, especially lyin Ryan, who has spent his whole career trying to throw the elderly and poor under the proverbial bus by trying to gut critical social programs, so-called entitlements. What needs to be gutted is CORPORATE entitlements, especially military spending with its waste, fraud and cost overruns, that dwarf any spending on social programs. Since both arms are controlled by the one corporate party, this seems highly doubtful, even when the left arm gains control of DC in November.

Massive tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations causing a reduction in federal revenues coupled with massive increases in military spending and then trying to offset that with cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for the elderly and poor is shameful.

I wonder if that's considered part of the national debt?

So the Federal government continues to rob its people blind with no repercussion. Then President Trump happily signed the "Jobs and Tax Act", including a last-minute add-on for high-end real estate holdings, thereby making the 1%, some Congressmen (and, of course, President Trump) very happy.

It's a damn shame that our elected representatives don't have the desire, cojones or creativity to come up with a solution that systemically returns the stolen SS funds, for the the benefit of our seniors.

Creative accounting for the good of the people, what a concept.

It woud be nice if fifty plus years of theft could be replaced in seventeen months but it ain't gonna happen.

Even if every one in office for the years involved were stripped of their assets it probably won't cover what was taken.

They continue to get by with their thievery, because idiots like Radiance3, Super Dave, et al believe their lies and bullshit.

Thankfully, there are candidates rising up who actually care about their constituents. Beto O'Rourke here in Texas is one of them. He does not accept donations from special interests or PACs, and his grassroots fundraising efforts have outdone that of incumbent Senator Ted Cruz (aka the Zodiac Killer) in three of the last four quarters.

I know it can't be done overnight, but that's no reason not to take affirmative action to repair the broken system. Gotta start somewhere!

It was not broke to start with originally social security funds were to be kept separate from general public funds.

When social security funds began making millions of dollars per day income for the trust fund crooked politicians changed the social security funds rules so they could get the benefit of the interest for the general fund. A pure clear case of embezelment.

I work and paid for ss and Medicare.
So did my husband. Where does his money go? I don't get to keep it along with mine? It was our money.
Why screw around with it. I now get 750.00 per month after Medicare insurance is taken out. So actually I'm paying twice for Medicare and now to cut it more?
I will NOT take any welfare, it's for the children.
