I dont know about any of you but I truly feel that along with any who are NOT LEGAL USA CITIZENS, that 18yr olds should NOT BE ALLOWED TO VOTE.
Seems to me at 18yrs old, most cant even figure out how to cook, wash, pay bills, without the assistance of mom & dad. They are still wet behind the ears and the last people to make a somewhat intelligent decision in choosing candidates to run for office.
Whats your opinion?

they are old enough to fight for their country(and some times give up an arm or a leg,and even sometimes die)
I guess they are old enough to vote

You make a good case for universal military training where cop-outs with heel spurs who are reluctant to serve could be cooks or latrine swabs and learn a trade.

Provided the age requirement of conscription (if & when) reflects the same I agree. At least age 21 if not 25.

The military usually separates the men from the boys. They should be allowed to vote. Those that couldn't cut it in the military should have to wait until the become adults, twenty one years of age.

They should have to. passed the same requirements set forth by law for the immigrants to become citizens. They must be able to read and write English and know basic America history.

Then we need to raise the minimum age for military service to 21 as well, and not allow non citizens to serve. You cannot seriously allow children to die for you - and deny them a say in the Government that's asking them to do it. You were aware that non citizens are allowed to serve, yes? We're such an honorable Nation, we promised these kids citizenship after their service..........................then deported them.

It's people with attitudes like yours, that cause the rest of the world to hate Americans.
Then we need to raise the minimum age for military... (show quote)

It seems you are taking liberties with the very few who serve our nation by imputing their patriotism and sacrifices to all those under the age of twenty-one. It would be equitable to grant the right to vote to all men and women who are serving on active duty and let the rest who have no skin in the game wait.

I think the reply to my post says it all, the wish of the powerful was expressed on a T shirt, recently seen in Vegas. "Old White Men Rule". Suggest the republicatns give these away in mass.

Not surprising that not one of you suggested that no one should be allowed to vote unless they can show (by passing a test) that they know anything about the crooks (err...candidates) running for office.

I have proposed a basic competency test several times on this forum and it has been greeted with charges of elitism and racism. We need an end to voting for a candidate because someone likes their hair or they have a good smile. If you don't know the candidates and you don't know the issues you don't need to vote.

That may be fair but I think it would take an amendment to the Constitution. Look how long it has taken the ERA to get close to passing.

I agree but also should not be able to serve in the military either if you have to be 21 to buy a adult beverage then you are not old enough to be killed defending this country either

I agree the voting age should be 21.

But of the drinking age......if an 18-year-old is man enough to put on the
uniform he should be allowed to drink at any bar in the country by showing
his military ID. We could drink anyway in basic training, regardless of age,
on base at the PX.....it was 3.2 beer but it could still get you drunk and give
you a hangover.

Then they shouldn't be allowed to decide whether to enlist or not.

Why is lp an idiot? Teenagers were going to Viet Nam an dying, yet they weren't allowed to vote against the war mongers who sent them there. How is that fair? We fixed that problem, now leave it alone.
