It's pretty simple Bob. If I leave my gun on the nightstand, and one of my grandkids takes it, and kills someone, or even discharges it, I should be prosecuted for negligence.
This isn't rocket surgery Bob!

The negligent homicide law is on the books in texas.

How much time would you get in Texas for "negligence"?

I don't have trigger locks on all of mine, but they are kept in a safe. I keep loaded handguns in various parts of the house since I work at night, and my wife is here alone. When the mobile grandkids are here, they are all unloaded, and locked up. The closet where the safe is also has a lock on the door. All ammunition is stored in a seperate closet in a fire resistant filing cabinet with a lock in an other closet. What more can a guy with no kids living here do?

I think Moldy posted the law, Bob. Read it. I'm not a lawyer, I'm just a humble freight hand.

Why? You wanna come by, and have a beer? You'd be welcome if your friendly.
If you have other intentions, and I'm not here, my wife will dump a few rounds in you in order to save you from a slow, painful death by bulldog. That would be the only humane thing to do in a case like that.

What is Criminally Negligent Homicide?
Criminally negligent homicide takes a typically civil concept – negligence – and holds a person criminally responsible for the death of another. Criminally negligent homicide occurs when an individual acted negligently in a way that they did something they should have known was a gross deviation from what a reasonable person would have done and it caused the death of an individual.

gross deviation ?????

Have you all, noticed, that 95% of mass shootings occur,NOT,by the gun owner,But,by their children? my solution is kinda simple,REQUIRE,that ALL guns, have a trigger lock,AND,have to be stored in a gun safe.AND,the kids have NO ACCESS to guns,or keys to trigger locks and safes, without parential permission,Have the police make spot checks, for compliance. If not complied with, take guns UNTIL trigger locks and a safe is bought, have parents,BE PARENTS,if your children are being bullied in school, take steps to find out WHY. IF,you cant resolve the bullying problem, either, change schools for them,or,home school them. look at what your children, are doing on the computer, get passwords from children,if the kids say "no way" remove the computer and I phone. Youre the parents,,,BE PARENTS.We HAVE to stop the easy access,of kids to OUR GUNS. Guns locked up,do not kill people,EASY access to our guns,is what gets people killed.

I don't want police to have access to my home when ever they want without a warrant. There is also a Fourth Amendment and I will give up neither. Your heart is in the right place but the heart sometimes acts without the brain. Before you know it you'll be thinking with your ass and become a Democrat. Remember Obama, Clinton, Hitler, and stevy and Bad Bob.

That's not the answer.. You need your weapon loaded and ready for action if the need arises. You won't have time to find your key or combination to open a gun safe and load a weapon before the intruder or intruders kill you and your entire family.

Keep a loaded weapon close to you but out of reach of small children.

The best way is teach the mature children gun safety and rules for handling a weapon. Teach them how to clean and care for a weapon. Teach them how to fire the weapon.

Violations of the rules will result in a lesson from the razor strap. That's how Grandpa taught me. Only one trip to the wood shed was all it took for me (I was a very fast learner 😆)

God bless America and the President

Actually, I'm thinking with my brain. You said spot checks for compliance. That made me wonder what you were thinking.

Common sense?! You mean a gun safe I agree. if you mean police having an open policy into my home you're an idiot. And that address you're looking for, it's down around the men's bath houses at 68ou1 Lavender Lane. Don't forget your clams.

Obviously common sense is not possible for you. You have decided what positions are possible without hearing any positions, that is the typical gun nut position. There can be no discussion if you have made up your mind.
