Why doesn't everyone want abortion to be illegal?

Here's some science for you, genius, a baby doesn't get "lung function" until it's born. Before that it gets all of it's oxygen from the mother.

Medically speaking, an fetus gets a heartbeat long before they get lung function(multiple weeks). Why does a heartbeat mean so much? It is not even what we call life. Life is when you get oxygen to your brain. We do not live in the 1950's or 1920's, or 1700's. Why are you guys afraid of science? Does it take away your "freedom" to judge people????

That isn't an issue at all. A natural uncontrollable abortion can't (or at least shouldn't) be blamed on anyone. I'm only trying to clarify the scientific definition of the beginning of life.

Well in that case, all eggs and sperm are alive, before they meet up.
What you are really trying to do is justify putting the bible as the standard for our country that has freedom of religion.

Or to put it another way. Abortion is a very poor form of birth control.

If there's one thing everyone should be able to agree on, it's the rights of unborn children. Apparently there are some very strong opinions that prevent some people from agreeing to make abortion illegal. I would really like to hear what those reasons are from the pro-choice advocates here.

Also, do you believe that abortion is murder?

Call it what ever you like but until there is some one willing to pick up the medical costs & help pay for the costs of that additional child you will still have abortions. Abortions that lead to Roe-Wade being passed.

Bottom line with out help for the woman that lacks the help to cope with the child she is carrying. The problem will never go away.

So I say that if you feel that abortion should be a crime You will drive abortions back under ground & you can go on feeling that you have done a good deed. Out of sight out of mind.

I believe that a heartbeat indicates a living human and to kill that heartbeat is murder, and to do it deliberately is premeditated murder. I believe that "partial birth" abortion is as totally gross and cruel as any heinous murder one can imagine. More so because the baby is totally defenseless, but it can feel the pain of being ripped apart. It takes monsters, people without souls, to commit these murders.

For the sake of getting votes, the people who write our laws have sold their souls and are complicit in the heinous murder of millions of Americans via the abortion on demand, when the simple answer is to teach women how to say "no" and to keep their pants on until they are ready to accept a possible pregnancy. If they cannot do that, they can practice birth control in ways that do not result in cruel murder.

There is little control that one can have over the urges of others. Urges that nature has imbedded in the human nature.

The best way is to raise children in a loving & caring family.
These children are loved & cared for & don't feel the need to act on their urges as strongly.

In this day and age family values are being distorted.
Leaving many to seek love in all the wrong ways & places.

I liked the way you got that little dig in on being a Republican.

Yes, the egg and sperm gametes are alive but neither one is human life life separately. I'm a science major and not part of any religion.

By asking if you believe abortion is murder I meant to ask if you believe that the fetus or cells are alive. I didn't mean to categorize it as "unlawful killing, with malice aforethought" but as the taking of a life.

The only difference between killing a fetus and killing a baby is legal specification. I'm sure many people could solve some issues easily (for themselves) by killing someone but it is illegal in modern times. Sometimes you just have to draw a line and defend it.

I would love for us to be able to have no abortions. I don't think it is killing someone, just a potential someone. But, historically we have been unable to stop it, even when it was illegal. The same people that want it illegal also do not want us to teach kids sex education. go figure.

I believe it's criminal to prevent sex education and birth control while demanding abortion be made illegal but also I understand everyone has their own beliefs to respect.

In the end it may be impractical to criminalize abortion. Clinics can be shut down, doctors can be imprisoned but there are so many unprofessional ways it can be done (most of them being extremely dangerous to the mother) you would pretty much have to require every fertile woman to have monthly examinations for signs of pregnancy.

I would like to think making something illegal would deter people from doing it but there's alot of pot smokers here in Texas where it's still illegal.
