Russian mercenaries are given a green light to attack an oil refinery protected by US soldiers, which is in effect Putin seeing nothing wrong with an attack on our military and we have people in this country too stupid to see anything wrong with that? How about explaining the difference between an attack by the Russian military or Russian mercenaries supplied with arms from Russia, and given their orders directly by Putin. Do you think Putin runs his military like Trump, doesn't know exactly what the military or mercenaries are engaged in? No, Pootie doesn't roll like that. He has a different kind of plausible deniability as long as Trump has his back.
In the Richard Engol piece he talked with mercenaries in Russia and showed a contract for those mercenary soldiers that spells out that they get 10% of oil refinery proceeds from any that they take from opposition control (that's us). The intelligence on those operations would have to come from Russian military and the Kremlin.
This isn't the time to have a president going soft on Russia, there is way too much going on on several fronts.
