More On The 200 Russian Mercenaries We Killed In Syria, It's More Like 400+

We had all heard something about this but details were scarce, just that our military got into it with Russian mercenaries. Russia was denying it, we weren't saying much.
Richard Engol did a great piece on it, interviewed the commander in charge of the defensive attack and filled in details. The Russian mercenaries full on moved in on a Conoco refinery the military was protecting. The concerned commander called the Russian liason and said they were being moved in on, Russia denied it was them. When this force kept moving in on them he called again, same answer. The mercenaries started firing mortars and the commander called in concerted air support that shredded 200 in one group alone, over 400 total. Engol aired radio communications from the mercenaries saying the US was destroying them.
It is fantastic coverage of this, and paints a very interesting picture of how Putin is using mercenaries in Syria and what some of their deniable missions are. Putin modeled these mercenaries on how we've used Blackwater.

Most of us are aware that we have had a strong use of Blackwater all through Bush's and Obama's eras, Some of the super bases built by the Pentagon were segregated into being half for civilians, half for military. Blackwater has had contracts worth billions of dollars a year.
Which is what was interesting about Eric Prince meeting with Russians covertly.
I'm still curious about some of the ideas that have been kicked around about Prince expanding the use of his private armies, some were shot down rather harshly by the pentagon. Authorization and the funding was attempted in congress at one point for an entirely "secret" national security use of Blackwater domestically that wasn't well received, but things like that have a way of being done regardless. Prince has had all kinds of interesting ideas for how his services can be expanded. He has also been putting a private air force together to be hired out to countries as a mercenary strike force.
