(if I didn't live through it, I wouldn't believe it myself)

Joe DiMaggio, the big #5, was several years retired by 1955; 1951 was his last year.

And if that is supposed to be Elvis getting his haircut for his induction into the Army, it was in March 1958.

LJ. I remember when my mom splurged and took us to the first Mickey D's to open in Norfolk, Va. because they were selling hamburgers for $.05 and FF for the same. A drink was also a nickel. Complete meal for $.15. I paid $.26 per gal. for gas to cut lawns with. Would earn between $1.00 to $1.25 for a quarter an acre. Of course I had to pay my dad for the use of his lawnmower. On weekends in the spring and everyday once school was out I carried fisherman's gear from their car to their rental rowboats and back at the end of the day for tips. I raked in the dough, roughly $6.00 a day. Don't you know I was one rich B. I also had a paper route. Those were the days. Mike

Well I wasn’t born yet but I’ve seen similar things on most of what you posted here.. like Elvis Presley, the VW, McDonalds but never at any .15c or gas for a Quarter.. I know about them from my Dad and older brother..

Anyway, I found them all interesting and Thank You for posting them...

Hi Mike~~ this is the oldest McDonalds in original structure located in Chicago.. Drove by it offend .. Thought you’€™d like to see it..

The monies you speak of freak me out! That’s a lot of mowing for 1.25!!! My Dad told me of Gas being the same as you said and often only .18cents ... lolol

Really it all sounds rather All American.. !! Kids actually did work for their spending miney.. You tycoon, you!!!
We had weekly chores done on Saturdays.. Beds stripped, your room cleaned, bathrooms too.. Boys then had yard work with Dad but they really had good bonding time when I think of it..Girls helped with the laundry with all those sheets etc..Good times, as wills would say..

Here's the Oldie..

The McDonald's in Downey, California is almost unchanged in appearance since it opened in 1953.

Hi LJ. I have seen gas at $.07 during gas wars but that wouldn't last for too long as the stations were probably paying more for a gal. than that. In addition to mowing other's grass it was my job to cut ours and keep my Dad's tomatoes weeded, for that I got $.25 a week. What the heck, back then we had all of the time in the world. Out of the house early and didn't return till the street lights came on. If we were needed, my Mom had brass bell at the back door and if we were within ears (not usually) we'd come running. A wonderful time to grow up. No worries about being kidnapped or anything. We couldn't get away with nonsense though because all of the parents were watching all of us and could and would bless you out and tell your parents. We still got away with an awful lot of mischief. Mike

Thank You, if ever there I’ll drive by it..

The one I posted in Chicago was to be demolished until the people filed to have it chartered a historical appointment?? Don’t know what happened, but old, yes, a historical anything, no...

You got to be kidding?? Gas that cheap~~ what happened to those days???

Yes, Mike, great days they were.. The American dream and morals ruled.. Not so anymore.. my neighborhood was keep your doors locked to your car, played outside or hoing off to do something all the time.. Saturday chores, then out~~ I can still hear my dad saying;your done, well go play then, you're not sitting around here...

Progress isn’t always progress, is it???

Not when it is liberal progress then it is the slippery slope down. Always has been and always will be for sure.
