The Catholic Church's reputation was damaged as a result, but the Church itself, has a pure and sacred mission to God. To love and serve the people of God especially those who are in most need, and to carry on the Jesus Christ mission. I hope all those pedophiles now could be drained out from the Catholic Church. They don't belong there The Church spent billions of dollars paying out the victims their victims.

I must say, why not look at your protestant church you have? You have so many pastors accused of sexual abuses by their members, and 9 out of 10 extort money from their members. They extort collect members' dues in hundreds of millions from the poor people they represent. Almost all of them, become multi-millionaires, or billionaires selling the name of Jesus to the members who pay them 10% of their income deposited to the accounts of their pastors. Some give the last penny they have thinking that it was for Jesus people.

On the other hand, there are thousands of priests in the Catholic Churches who serves with great sacrifices for the love of God. This is what Jesus said for the 3rd time: Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter said,” you know that I love your Lord”. Jesus said, “Feed my sheep”. This has been the mission of the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church serves the poorest of the poor all over the world, and locally.
They serve the elderly, disabled and helpless, the orphans, the very poor. They build schools, homes, to very poor countries in the world, build them water supplies, and provide medical care. Many times, the priests assigned to those countries despite of the sacrifice and help they do are killed by the Muslims.
The PEDOPHILES you accused of the Catholic Church do not belong there. The Church was misled of the evil desires of those pedophiles. They were not hired had the Church knew of their bad and evil intents. They are very sick people.

If the Archbishop actually said what you claim that he did, he's obviously sick and should loose his position in the church. But, if it's something that you heard or read that some one claimed he said that, don't put yourself in the position of judge and jury. Innocent until proven guilty, unless your name is Clinton. Confession is good for the soul, but confession should be made to God, not a religious leader. Also, if a person sins against another, the victim should receive an apology from the one who wronged him/her, ad if possible, compensation for the wrong done to him or her.

Had the Catholic church really cared those who molested boys would have been turned over to the police. The Catholic churches tradition of paying off the victems and demanding they say nothing or press charges indicates they complicity of the Catholic church.

Not so much complicity, stupidity mostly. Paying victims of such assaults is ingrained in our culture and sometimes payments are made simply to keep even unfounded accusations from becoming public and creating further scandal, which in Catholic theology is a sin. The Church is no different in this respect than any other individual or organization. Where they failed is in not recognizing that pedophiles do not change. No amount of confession will ever rectify this bad behavior, nor are there any known cases where pedophiles gave up their perversion. The Church always expects repentance and rectification of the bad behavior. The confessional exists to confer God's absolution for truly repentant people.

None the less the Church has the obligation to protect its parishioners and to simply transfer the offending priest just moves this evil to a new location. The priests involved, if there was sufficient evidence, should have been unfrocked and thus prevented from having access to children under Church auspices. The Church didn't because they always believe in man's ability to truly repent and they are short of priests. Which held greater weight I don't know.

To paraphrase Spock's death scene "The good of the many outweighs the good of the one". Once the offending behavior was known the Church had the obligation to protect all other children from this person without regard for its own reputation. This is the stupidity I referred to above, taking swift punitive action for such crimes, identified outside of the Confessional, would have enhanced the Church's reputation. Everyone knows pedophiles exist in all areas of life; concealing and tolerating them makes you complicit in their evil, no matter what your intention was.

It never ceases to amaze me that "Progressives" who claim same sex attraction is not changeable but sex attraction toward children is changeable with a small amount of therapy . Thousands of people who went through a period of same sex attraction have become opposite sex attracted over time, often only by the process of maturity, but those who are attracted to children never stop being attracted to children and cannot stop acting on this attraction for an extended period of time.
